Uhh, how about having to hold the button down to go up and down? Where is the conspiracy in that, you can go and literally try it out right now. Is there a single other elevator you've ever used that requires that? It is absolutely absurd to try to convince people to believe that is considered "standard" functionality anywhere in the modern world. Who knows if it's a cut corner, maybe it even cost them EXTRA to spite us.

Then find the places where they cut corners. Actual documentation vs conspiracy theory crap. I know you won’t (because it doesn’t exist), but if your claims were real you would have.

That’s not how elevators work. There’s a handful of models, you collect a few bids since each vendor has 1-2 and pick your floor color. That’s really all there is to it. You have more choices in iPhones than elevators.

These aren’t custom implementations. That’s not a thing. There’s no corners to cut outside of some decorative trim pieces and flooring material. You get what’s offered. Then the city inspects and approves it once installed.

On the ticket, it was for “No Stopping or Standing”, which is confusing since it was a clearly marked as a parking spot, I paid the correct meter and the payment went through (ParkMobile will tell you if parking at that time period is prohibited) and the street cleaners don’t pass through at that time.

I have the screenshot showing payment and the time period I was competed for along with the ticket itself proving that it was issued during that time period. Part of me wants to forfeit the $50 to avoid that process but the simple principle of the matter is going to make me fight this thing. Thank you, this comment will be duly noted.

Easily contestable in court if you have any shred of proof. The question is if you have the patience and time to go to evening municipal court and plead your case. I had two erroneous parking tickets and beat them twice. You'll need to have pictures ready. You'll need to face-to-face with a bottom-tier city prosecutor who is only interested in generating revenue. But if you have genuine proof (they love pictures), speak to the judge politely, and patiently wait your turn you'll very likely get the ticket dismissed.

I don't know about that...why is it like the worst new elevator in North America then? Also Port Authority's elevator game seems fine in WTC and Harrison where they actually care. They spent 7 and a half years trying to fight it, and it's basically an open secret that they did the shoddiest job possible. Even that 3 year deadline to build it that they promised wasn't met, and Fulop had to publicly call out that there are literally entire high rises that were being built faster than this elevator.

As someone who has lived in the Heights for 20 years, it's very chill here. not a ton of bars or anything fun really, but not super far from downtown where there is a ton of food/drink/etc. We have never felt anxious around here and I used to work super late and come home walking by myself at 2-3am routinely with 20lbs of camera gear in my bag and thankfully it's been incident free. I don't do the late nights in recent years, and use Uber a lot more... but overall we are pretty damn content here and were lucky enough to find our most recent rental, and the owner lives next door so we don't have any challenges dealing with absentee landlords etc.

Hi, I just moved out of JC yesterday. We are gay and my partner is trans, and we both LOVED living in jersey city heights. It's not a particularly gay neighborhood, but it's very diverse, so I didn't feel like we stood out particularly.

The area around Journal Sq is not to bad. McGinley Square (roughly 10 min walk to journal sq) is a good option as well. Its not as safe as downtown but its not a warzone either. Downtown is the place where most people move to. However, you may have a tough time finding a place in downtown and Hoboken with that budget. You may be able to find a small 1 BR or studio apartment. Washington St area is downtown and is safe. You just have to deal with a lot of drunk people walking around at night. If you have a car, parking is a major pain. As for diversity, the entire city is a melting pot so you should be ok.

I think the reason is that it's technically a platform lift and not a full-fledged elevator. Because the lift isn't fully enclosed (there's no ceiling), I believe there are safety regulations that require the user to continually press a button for safety reasons.

Supposedly, there was not enough space or clearance to build a proper elevator between the mezzanine and platform levels, so we ended up with this contraption.

I tried that elevator once after moving to JC out of sheer interest... at first I was confused, but I went with it.

Around ~2 feet off the ground, a great moment of self reflection began. Being a degenerate gamber, I suddenly found myself pot committed in a physical way. I suffered through those 7 minutes, suffered knowing I made the wrong decision, suffered knowing I could have pressed down and walked up faster than waiting... suffered.

When I got out of the tunnel those 7 minutes later, I knew that I had learned a great life lesson. I will never take that elevator willingly in great health ever again. and I will remember to cut my losses early, every time.
