To not do anything/pass their responsibility on to the tenet is something (many) landlords do.

If you have an indoor thermometer make sure to take pictures with time stamps of your bedroom temperature. If you are going to communicate do it through certified mail.

If buying window insulators from Home Depot is the solve, which we probably know isn’t, deduct it from your rent.

"Under the state housing codes, from October 1 to May 1, the landlord must provide enough heat so that the temperature in the apartment is at least 68 degrees from 6 am to 11 pm. Between 11 pm and 6 am, the temperature in the apartment must be at least 65 degrees."

If your bedroom is under 65 degrees overnight, I would put in writing that you will withhold whatever portion of your rent it costs to purchase these window insulators. If those solve your problem, great. If not, it's still their responsibility for the HVAC to be capable of heating your apartment and they would need to upgrade it or make other insulation improvements.

I posted about a raccoon running wild weeks ago and urging people to be safe especially with children and pets and I got attacked with multiple comments saying racoons don't attack people, it's no big deal, yada yada yada. The comments were so obnoxious, silly and relentless that I just deleted the post completely.

This is a state park but in an urban area with 600 acres of land. I don’t think allowing 60-80 acres to build a community center and some ball fields is too much to ask. That would leave over 500 acres of natural open space. Not to mention cleaning up the 250 acres of contamination that fills this park!

As a newer JC resident (~2yrs) but frequenter of LSP (a least every other week), do those that are ardently against outside development have any proposals to improve the park in its current state?

I wander all over the park birding but can’t help but notice…

  • grove of remembrance routinely overgrown in the summer, including the 9/11 roundabout plaque area
  • south cove beach and black Tom piers littered with tidal ocean trash
  • nature center pond choked off with algae
  • nature center trails and vegetation blanketed by invasive vines
  • sink holes along north cove waters edge
  • half sunken boat along south entryway (since sandy?)

I love this park and am thrilled to track the countless wildlife species I’ve found within. Similarly I understand the land’s industrial past and the drastic changes in the last few decades and have seem small investments the past few years….

But still seems unfinished and underutilized given how close it is to do many residents. People only congregate in the RR terminal, the central play ground and waters edges. The vast middle is always empty.

Guess what I want to say for those so against development plans— are we happy as it is or what else is there to do?

Essentially I believe that dog parks are a better alternative than off leash dogs everywhere, which was the norm before there were dog parks.

The very early morning hours are not when I'm in the park but I have heard that there are still people who run their dogs off leash then, free to crap and pee wherever they want. Back in the good old days when I had a toddler, I watched a guy let his dog crap just feet from the unfenced playground and walk away...
