I think it's because I was literally right where the major roadway goes down to the Tunnel and I often saw the helicopter news people during the traffic reports... Newport I can see having more issues with the helipad stuff... but I haven't lived downtown in a very long time.

If you head out for Thursday, there are friendly folks that would load you a deck if you asked. Pre-cons for Commander can be had for ~$40-50, and most could be upgraded to be better for another $20-30 of singles; not the worst costs for a Magic format!

There is a small card shop in Bayonne, MTG events run at the Play Hoboken Space, a few places in the city, then some folks drive out to NJ for events at suburban shops for tournaments & prereleases. It's a lower margin business that needs lots of floor space, so it's hard to make it work in JC! That's why we made the facebook group and group chat, as there are enough folks here to get a community going but no store.

Palisades Park for fantastic Korean. Fort Lee for Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Newark's Ironbound for Portuguese, Brazilian and, increasingly, Central American -- though not exactly vegetarian-friendly fare, there are some decent seafood-centric spots. Staten Island -- not Jersey, but close enough -- has a concentration of Sri Lankan restaurants.

I use the Transit app on iOS and I find it pretty reliable. On the weekends there are often service changes that impact the times. It helps to follow them on social. They’ll post the times the trains leave from their starting terminals. If one is operating every 30 minutes as opposed to the usual 20 minutes, I know to be careful.

Actually, I live in Newport, about 2 blocks from the tunnel, and I don’t hear the helicopters hovering that often. I hear them going up and down the river or flying people out to EWR, but not in the “traffic report” stationary sense. Could just be me.
