I wonder if it’s still owned by the same family, i used to love this place when I lived closer to it but it’s probably been about 15 years since I’ve been in here.

Some buildings not only have angled columns like these, but the columns "walk" from floor to floor, so there's always some overlap of the columns from floor to floor, some vertical transmission of the gravity load, but not completely, so the net result is a crazy stacking of pennies reaching amazing, seemingly impossible overhangs.

The way I find it helpful to think about these kinds of columns is to imagine wider columns only where there are wider balconies and longer cantilevers to support. You can then visualize the bigger columns on top of smaller ones, then topped again by smaller ones, like a narrow cylinder supporting a wide one supporting a narrow one. This way, you can imagine how the full volume of the bigger columns is actually not needed. Instead, the load shifts out towards the extended balcony/cantilever. Then, just remove the concrete you don't actually need, and use a constant diameter cylinder to form the column, and you get these angled columns.

Place is always packed and was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives when it was Brownstone

I’ve lived downtown JC for 11 years now. Personally never had anything happen to me. Haven’t witnessed any significant crime or anything during my time here. I spend about half my life walking the streets with my dogs. I’ve seen a lot of weird shit, but never witnessed rampant crime per se. So yea. I’d say it’s pretty darn safe.

You mean like more than 20 years ago? Because brownstone diner right before this remodel was the exact same size.

Actually the main problems especially in the JSQ area are dirty streets, garbage everywhere, dog poop, broken sidewalks , city workers don't give a shit about it, so yeah Corruptions running wild and most likely crimes too.

They have some of the best home fries I've ever had, perfectly seasoned and crispy

Just a question: why anybody bother about "official" dispensary, if pretty much any smokeshop sells all kind of type of cannabis products?

I take my cat to Blue Pearl in Paramus, not sure about the dogs but heard mostly good reviews from the cat parents. It’s pretty expensive but cats need to get full anesthesia for the proper dental cleaning. My poor boi has juvenile gingivitis and his gums and teeth look a lot better after 2 cleanings, a year apart

I went once after the rebranded and I said to the host “ the diner remodel looks great!” She replied “it’s not a diner”

RIP Brownstone Diner

So many great memories of gorging on pancakes and getting day drunk at the Brownstone lmao

Haven't been there since the rebrand and haven't seen a reason to try it yet given other similar spots and the time they close.

Before they upgraded there was a much smaller diner in that spot owned by the same family. It was pretty rundown and i think I remember the ceiling leaking when it rained.

What's the price on that these days?

Food is great here and the service even better. Shame they're not open in the evenings.
