It seems like half the daycares and playschools in JC use it for recess, which I'm guessing didn't happen in the past? Once the weather is nicer, there must be well over 100 kids from different places using it at certain times. And they're often digging up rocks/ playing in mud/ using sticks to tear at the turf, so the grass has no chance at all.

There are plenty of grasses that can be grown under a little shade. It's had decent grass before.

That sign isn't actually referring to 19th and Hackensack Plank, rather warning about Pleasant Ave being closed between 32nd and Marginal. I believe the reason they get away with that is they have police actively forbidding anyone trying to use it as a throughway. Anyone specifically accessing the block of Pleasant (and for that matter, 33rd) is allowed to pass. It's done to alleviate the intersection at 31st, which 9/10ths of the time is being manned by police as well. Other approaches in town are still allowed, and it's not a blanket that all out of towners can't use the road, even if you live in town you can't do it. That's the distinction.

I don't know but I grew up around that park in the seventies and the grass was always green, Kids have always played in that park. I have never seen it look like that.

Yea. I've had some late evening or night flights out of there where Precheck was closed altogether. But that's really the only airport that I've noticed that.

Doubtful. See "induced demand".

Cool link. Even his 2nd attempt was not the last plan. The PA was actually created 102 years ago to build a lower Hudson freight rail crossing, and we're still waiting! A century of failure...

New Exits is easy to say, but the approach has a ton of buildings on both sides. How do you propose getting around that? And the traffic that crosses the approach?

It's winter which means the grass is dormant. With people still tracking over it with dogs and kids, the grass is bound to be ripped out and not re-grow because it's dormant.

New exits. Point is you have to be on the turnpike or 139 to enter the holland, cant take new hoboken exit and try to circumvent

They’d be better off intentionally converting one or two of the lawns to a dirt playing field. Then maybe more people would stay off the grass parts.

I think is the winter.

It's worth it at busy airports like EWR, ATL (especially Atlanta where even the Precheck line is super long) and LAX. The only issue I've run into is that at FLL the TSA Precheck line isn't open late a lot of times.

Not suggesting pulling a Leonia but genuine question.… I’ve noticed Weehawken has a “locals only” sign outside the Lincoln, on 19th and Hackensack Plank Rd. Are they not being sued because they don’t actually enforce it? Or just because no one has tried to sue, yet? It’s been there awhile, months at least.

I like the idea of closing off sections at a time to give it a chance to grow back. At the end of the day, the amount of kids who use that park for recess is very high so it will never flourish

It’s not the dog pee lol. It’s the thousands of little kids playing on it every day and the lack of sun due to the trees

Doesn’t that kill the approach to people going to Hoboken and North JC? How are they supposed to get there?

Move the exit/entrance of the holland tunnel to coles street and only allow drivers on the turnpike/139 to enter the holland tunnel

Thank you ❤ I'm obsessed with, and used to shading with pencil only. This the first time trying different markers, it's a lot less messy 😮
Chilltopjc t1_j53fw2r wrote
Traffic but also shade. Grass needs sun and there isn’t any there.

Honestly if it’s due to foot traffic and kids a recess i rather have it look ugly and be useable than it be roped off to look better.
Guess happy medium there would be to replace with turf but i don’t know how that would 1, effect the trees, and 2, effect the general environment. No idea if it is bad at all but I’ve definitely feel like I heard it ain’t great somewhere. Maybe a Snapple cap fact lol?
Either way think it’s good to have some parks that can be used for more stuff beyond a view and I think Hamilton does that well plus has the skyline view anyway.
