Screen brightness is THE biggest factor when it comes to battery life. But even keeping that down, I don’t think the mini is going to be a good fit for you. It wasn’t for me as even a bit of Pokemon Go was enough to put it at risk of needing a recharge when it wasn’t convenient.

Mmmmm, let me say a little bit more then, although you are already making a point.

I do have a lot of screen on time, I was expecting to get at the very least 5 hours of SOT, or at least to not have to charge the phone through the day. I mostly spend my time in social media and Spotify, waze makes special appearances from time to time.

I rarely game and don't mind battery if that's the case.

Not really enough info to make a recommendation either way. To me, it does sound like you're a heavy user. I'm not confident any base model phone would be enough for your needs without charging.

What about spending less money and getting one of those battery cases I'm assuming they make for the S21? B/c I really feel if you got the mini, you'd still end up needing one of those.

This comes up multiple times a week. It isn’t possible. Apple doesn’t allow apps to record telephone calls from the device itself.

All call recorders on iOS offer a poor experience due to having to use three way calling. The person being called is always aware they are being recorded and there is a gap in the conversation while the third number connects. A third party stores the recordings and you need to subsequently download your recording. You are far better off buying a call recorder that plugs into the phone and using that. Personally if I need to record a call I put it on speaker and record with my Apple Watch and an app called Just Press Record

It‘s not confirmed, so we can’t be sure until WWDC. If they drop support for the iPhone 8 this would also mean that they have to drop it for the iPhone X as well and that would be a shame. The 8/X got 5 years of software updates and the 6s got 6 years. So there might be a chance for the 8/X getting iOS 17. But I don’t expect Apple to support iOS 18+.

i think it’s likely that iphone 8 will not get ios 17. however you don’t need to be very concerned about that as apps usually support older ios. moreover apple also rollout security updates to older ios versions for a very long time.

an iphone 8 is old but still an impressive piece of tech and a pleasant thing to use. surely still can squeeze 2-3 years of enjoyment out of that bugger.
