Just an eyeroll.

It just amazes me how many oblivious people in the world will lock up their valuables but not take even the slightest bit of precaution with the portable computer with all their personal info that they constantly carry around.

“OMG SOMEONE TOOK MY PHONE AND SOMEHOW CRACKED MY CODE! Those dastardly geniuses somehow figured out my/my kid’s four digit birth month and year!”

I use iOS and I rarely if ever see those spam text messages, same with my wife. However we also use third party apps to cut down the phone and text message spam, and they do help quite a lot.

As Tainted said above, Android and iOS users both get these spam texts so it doesn’t matter which operating system or text messaging service you use, iMessage, RCS, SMS, WhatsApp, etc., they all get spam.

If you’re getting that much spam then you need to see where you’ve shared your phone number. Is it part of your email signature? Your cellular carrier can share it unless you tell them not too in your account settings, same with your ISP and Amazon. Google DOES and WILL sell your phone number unless you specifically tell them not to in your Google, Gmail, and Android settings. Were any of the businesses or stores you deal with part of a data breach? That’s another way spammers get your phone number and email address. Did you click on a link in a email or text that you later found suspicious?

Did you put your phone number on Facebook, Messenger, or Instagram? If so you’re screwed. Take it off ASAP.

Per Krebs and other cybersecurity experts, if you’re getting more than 3 spam text messages a week than your phone number was sold or shared without your permission, is part of your email signature, or part of a data breach. Per those same experts, only way to stop them is to keep blocking them on your phone and reporting them, or change your phone number.

Also per Krebs and the US Department of Homeland Security and the FCC, RCS is currently the number one target of SMS scammers, and relies entirely on filters used by individual cellular carriers for protection; with even Google admitting RCS is a spam sieve. Ok I’m

Oh, you and your cellular carrier are ultimately responsible for blocking spam text messages, not Apple or Google.

There are so many ways for spammers to get your personal information that have NOTHING to do with Apple, iMessage, or RCS, so stop blaming them for it.

For an end user the solution is multi factor authentication every time you want to use your phone. It already exists as an option on some privacy/security focussed Android custom builds, usually using an NFC tag, or by having to use both a PIN/password plus biometrics.

It's not very convenient so the vast majority of people wouldn't use it.

For corporately managed devices mobile device management solutions exist which can prevent the user from doing certain things, or from having access to certain things so there's more security there to protect corporate data and access to remote resources, but this isn't something most end users will have the knowledge or money to implement, and again, it's not very convenient due to the limitations.

Yeah that's fair its like getting a new car every 2 or 3 years. I have always gotten a new phone because the one I was using was failing. I dont know if that's a result of buying budget phones my whole life. Since I've been with Samsung and other android phones mh whole life I'd like something different. The only phone that could get me to stay with Samsung is the s22 as its a smaller phone. Otherwise I would be looking to get the iPhone 13mini

IPhone 13 or IPhone 15?

I'm a teenage guy, obviously don't have the most insane financial situation, and I wanted to switch from my Samsung Galaxy A52 (the vibration motor also broke, LOL). So the situation here is:

1- I'm skipping the 14 completely, as I am well aware of the lack of changes to justify a generational jump 2- I adore the green IPhone 13 (silly, I know) 3- Not planning on getting any Pro/Pro Max variants 4- Type C probably won't be standardized until a few years after the 15 comes out, as basically all IPhone users have a lightning cable

Help me make a choice! I KNOW my conditions seem unclear so please feel free to comment or recommend, thank you:)
