I might think about it in terms of cost per hour of use. The typical american keeps a phone for about 2.5 years and uses it for about 5 hours per day. If you last bought a phone in 2017, it sounds like you keep your handsets for about 2x as long as the typical person, so let's say ~9,000 hours of screen time. That would put the base sized 14 Pro Max at about 12 cents per hour of use. The 14 Plus, on the other hand, would be about 10 cents an hour of use.

So the question is, are the other Pro Max features like a better camera worth 2 cents per hour to you? Based only on size and battery life preferences, PerfectRec has the 14 ProMax at a 59% match and the 14 Plus at a 52% match for you (results), which is pretty close. If you can still find a 13 PM at a local retailer, that might be a happy medium. But the big picture is that if you're getting a ton of life expectancy out of your phones, the incremental cost between the Plus and PM isn't that much.

Not certain but I think this is a very likely culprit. She likely needs to unregister RCS "chat" messages on her old phone, but if it's inaccessible, she can do it from a web page here:

https://messages.google.com/disable-chat

That's Google's page with instructions to do it from both the old phone or the website linked within. The kicker is that they say it can take several days, up to a week.

Think of RCS as Google's iMessage, accept it's supposed to be a universal standard...though Apple refuses to use it as a standard until forced to, I think when 6G becomes a thing. Until then Apple wants this shit to happen so people stick with iPhones.

Personally, I'd go with the 14 for the battery life, but I think it really depends on if you want to prioritize. With the smaller phones, you have a very stark tradeoff between size vs camera and battery.

If you're No. 1 priority is a small size and you have no opinion on anything else, PerfectRec has the 13 Mini at a 41% confidence match for you. But that would change dramatically if you care about camera or battery. If you say battery is more important than size, it has the 14 Pro at a 53% match for you. That number would creep up depending on your camera and budget priorities.

The biggest change that’s been made is you can no longer purchase from the Kindle app on iOS or Android. This is because Apple and Google charge a 30% fee through the app. What you need to do is log into Amazon on a web browser and purchase from there. It will almost immediately download to your phone.

Well afaik you can set up more that one trusted number for access to your iCloud (afaik).

You can call an Uber or taxi - no need for an app or account.

You can still get regular paper tickets from the airline/travel agency. So get the paper plus an electronic one.

Always have 50 bucks in cash with you - you never know😉

Well back in the days bricking a mainboard through a firmware update was always a scenario. When I got my first Galaxy bricking by using custom ROMs was also not that uncommon. But apart from the update you can just have electronics fail - for whatever reason or you can drop your phone and it’s dead😉

If you depend on your devices for making money (as in work/business) you need backups - plain and simple. And that means easy access backups - like local ones. In the past Apple, Amazon and other cloud providers also had trouble with their (cloud)services. So you can’t really rely on having access to online storage 24/7.

I don’t want to be this person, but I feel an iPhone upgrade with 256GB or more storage would be perfect for you.

For now, I’d go through Alight Motion for things you don’t need, as well as consider backing up your photos to the cloud.

Never do auto updates😂 Always wait a week or two and check wether people report problems…

Backups are your responsibility! No one forces you you to have all information and 2FA on your mobile! Never put all apples in one basket!
