It would sound like shit. Driver and baffling designs for open- and closed-back headphones are different. So is the tuning.

They're not interchangeable.

As one wise poster in here said, put your hands over the cups of your open-back headphones. Sounds like shit, right? That's what it would sound like if you covered the grills.

P.S.: Your calculus of impedance is way off. High impedance makes a can tougher to drive, not easier. But sensitivity also plays just as important a role. The lower the impedance, the easier to drive. The higher the sensitivity, the easier to drive. Check both stats before determining if your source can drive a headphone without an amp.

I owned the 560s. They sounded like shit and lacked volume from a phone. They really need an amp -- even a portable one -- to sing.

I would but I just have such little interest. I only use them out and about and I need the quality of life features (transparency mode, noise canceling). If I’m at home I’m in front of my stereo. Just simply stating how impressive second gen AirPod Pros are compared to high end IEMs from 10 years ago or even recent IEMs I’ve heard like the Fiio FD7. Not really my realm anymore.

is providing genuine feedback being an “asshole”? these are just opinions after all, its not like anyones being rash and just hating on these products for the sake of hating. a rhetoric of ‘just enjoy lol’ is terrible when there are objectively wayyy better options for the same price it took to purchase all of these, especially when the consumer is new and un- knowledgeable about the market. its worth it to just do the research or receive feedback, its what drives the market forward and pushes for innovation. i understand that if OP enjoys his purchase, then good for him, but dont try and sugar coat things whilst undermining the importance of feedback and adverse opinions.

If you're a newb, why are you buying four headphones at once? You'll never know what kind of sound signature you prefer when you're bouncing four headphones with different sonic qualities on and off your head.

Start with one. See if it fits what you seek. If not, sell or return it and move to another. Once you've found your preferred signature, then it's time to branch out with a second or third pair with different sonic qualities that may suit different types of music better.

Start in the shallow end, dude. You'll be frustrated -- and maybe broke -- by starting off the high dive.

And yeah, this may sound dickish, but ... you can do better for the money than those four cans you selected. Considerably better.

Let us know what kind of music you like. Let us know what kind of sound you prefer? Lots of bass? Midrange? Airy treble? Want a ton of detail or a relaxed sound? Then we can give you recommendations.

LCD-X. I remember going to CanJam and from all the headphones and setups available disregarding price tag, every time I listen to the LCD-X I just enjoyed the music so much more.

Yeah it's really weird, I keep going back and forth between different sets, and everytime I put the Etymotics on, it feels like I'm listening through a tube... Not a tube amp mind you, but an actual tube 😅 Like some part of the upper frequencies were chopped off. Listening to some rock songs earlier, there was almost no treble at all... I can't believe I'm writing this given the praise they receive, but for now they're my worst sounding set, noticeably worse than the 7Hz Zeros, at least tuning-wise... Not giving up just yet though.

I haven't tried to EQ them yet, but oratory1990 made EQ profiles for them, and they do seem to boost the treble a good amount (look for "ER-2", he added an extra dash in the name). His EQ profiles were always a good starting point for me!

Edit: just tried his "oratory1990 target" preset and yes, it does help a bit. Still a bit "soft" though, despite +5dB at 8K. Oh well... Nevermind, it was a song issue. It's much better now.

I definitely do not like my midrange muffled or veiled or recessed or whatever the word is. Although closed back is much further down the road & im honestly hoping the Clear will take care of my upgrade-itis for the foreseeable years. I’ll probably get the ADI-2 after the Clear, just because I feel like if I have headphones that are $1500, a $110 DAC just isn’t doing it justice. Plus the ADI-2 has an input for XLR for headphones, and it has XLR output for studio monitors, which I plan on getting. It also has built in EQ, which saves me from buying an external EQ.
