Maybe with extreme levels of EQ, like trying to add in 20dB of subbass. You’ll probably hear the driver screaming in pain before you actually damage it though.

Just a cautionary tale from someone who bought these. If you want a mic for gaming, you are pretty much forced to a separate mic. Due to the mini xlr connection in the headphones you can't use a normal boom mic like the vmoda or something. Unfortunately, there aren't really a ton of adapters from mini xlr to 3.5mm either. This is especially difficult on console if you plan on just doing a controller. Maybe a little boom mic isn't important to you though. Just a little fyi.

Check out the xDuoo TA-30 if you want a ton of power. I see another commenter recommended another xDuoo product; I'm very happy with mine.

Someone on a different thread was just singing the praises of the Philips Fidelio L2. It's under $100. Sivga SV021 might also be a contender in this price bracket.

If you read through the thread, it seems in the end that it was something else that "exploded" near the amp, as it has apparently no issues and no visible damage inside either. The previous generation of the L30 did have some issues, but they apparently did fix it in the II, and I believe it has DC protection so shouldn't blow up headphones at least.

It is. The best frequency response in your ear wins. It doesn't matter if it's $2 or $2000.

Lumia's ran Windows Phone, which heavily influenced by the Zune HD, especially the the media app. In fact, the original Windows Phone 7 still used the Zune software to sync content.

Thanks for the suggestions! Honestly the L30 II is actually looking pretty good right about now! I already have a DAC that I can use so it would be perfect. Looks to have great build quality and, apparently, can survive exploding lol!

Reminds me of those Nokia Lumia smartphones. Windows-8-like UI in pocket size. They should have stopped trying after Windows CE.

I mean you might damage some headphones if you EQ in like 20db of bass at a really high volume, but other than something like that you can't damage headphones with an EQ, and it's actually pretty hard to damage headphones in general
PolarBearSequence t1_j6nuqyz wrote

Not really. If you apply enough EQ to a frequency to cause driver damage, you’ll cause ear damage far before that, just like if you were to turn the overall volume up.

Maybe. If you push all the sliders all the way and you run them on max volume for an extended period.
>I saw a YT video
I sometimes with people would treat YT videos more like entertaiment and less like a source of facts. Because f- me what a load of bollocks some people put in their videos!!

I've always seen people say HD-800s are the closest to planars you can get with a dynamic driver headphone. I tried a few Planars (not many) and I can agree. It made me appreciate the HD-800 (in my case HD-8XX) even more though since the HD-800S offer more a more dynamic sound than planars while still being super clear and accurate. + around the skull sound stage ofcourse.

Yup, it really is that good. And they updated the EQ to 20 bands recently, which is just crazy. Not even the RME ADI-2 DAC does that.

If you’re happy with your 535, you don’t need to upgrade. As for Bluetooth amps, if you want something with tons of features, check out the Qudelix 5K. Otherwise. The FiiO BTR5 is very good.

You know it's a good device when a user wants to use it even if it's a lot easier to connect headphones directly to a source.
