The HD600 is less comfortable, but sounds amazing. It is definitely better tuned and more technically capable, though it does need a decent amp to show it. I use mine with the Fiio BTR5, and that works great for me, especially on wireless mode.

For the comfort, it is a step back, with higher clamping force, though the headband is better designed compared to the HD599’s faux leather.

Would you be able to tell the difference if you didn't know they were different file types? I'd try to do a blind test if possible. Knowing beforehand which is which is a very powerful subconscious persuasive tool, something that has been proven in various studies.

I plan on including some measurements in the future, but currently I'm learning on how to measure, to not make worse articles with measurements if those would be done imporperly.

Equipment that measures distortion and aspects like the slew rate of the amplifier can be rather complicated to use and pricey, and I do focus on the subjective part of audio, not because I have special ears, but because I ought to have average and similar hearing to most people so I can talk about most peole would hear as well.

Wow, what a crappy situation. Thank you for the detailed information. Sad to say (as an owner of a Heresy) that I have now read about a few things like this. Mine has been working well but I am not sure if this is something that it either has or doesn't have, or happens over time.

I saw the "Heretic" on their site around 4 minutes after I completed the purchase of my Heresy (in truth it was a day or so, but...). The first thing that hit me is that it has the headphone jack and volume control separated from each other. That is so far the only regular annoyance I am having with mine - is that they are so close to each other. No idea why they thought that was a good idea.
