If you wanted different, then I’d say you made a better choice. To me, the OG Clears are an HD6XX on steroids. It just takes everything and does it a lot better.

Yeah, HD600 cost around $400 in where I live (Indonesia), but you can still get the likes of S12 or Kato for normal price. Some sellers unfortunately intentionally mark up the price because something is very popular though, like how Hexa costs above $100 here.

Hello Fresh is solid. They're ridiculously pushy once you cancel since they just send you codes and reminders nonstop after that but the food is really good. Every meal was head and shoulders better than anything I cook on my own.

Oh yes, I know there are plenty of non-harman tuned IEMs. I meant mainly that is what happens when chi-fi is discussed on this subreddit. I'm not an IEM person, but new stuff is always cool. More of the same stuff being posted is tiring after so long lmao

I keep up with dudes who review chi fi stuff, but I’ve never bought any because the Z1r, e5000, and ie600 exist

I have no interest in chi-fi. Seems most of it is just a dick measuring contest between who can get the closest to the harman target. It's just boring

I just got a pair of hd660s’ and am waiting on the dx3, these will be the first pair of headphones I own as well as my first dac. Although I don’t mind spending more money in the beginning to lengthen the time needed for an upgrade, I would like to “test the waters”, and for a couple hundred bucks I feel the little topping may help with that.

I have 660S and recently tried some Bayers to see if they have the bass I want for more thumpy electronic/pop music because of course that's what the HD6 series lacks. I landed on the lower end 770 Pros (I got the black Limited ones) and I have to say I'm quite happy. They're well tuned despite being a bit more recessed in the mids, and I can deal with the high treble when it's in those electronic genres because it's not overbearing there. So now I have closed backs with more thump and treble for electronic, rap and pop and my HD660S for guitar driven music like metal and rock. I'm good with this setup, and I think having the two pairs gives me a lot more precision than having just one endgame set. But we'll see, as these things never seem to stay stable for long.

Definitely EQ them. The clarity is so much better once EQ'd. Can't remember the EQ I use for mine. But after EQ, I can't imagine anything sounding better. Maybe something with the mids and lows of audeze, but highs of a beyer dynamic?

Oh they do sound different, sometimes drastically. I used to repeat after other people that "all of them sound the same", but by chance, I have access to quite a bit more to listen and A/B tests to review and now I have to take back the "they all sound the same" statement.

The thing is we are dealing with imperfect analog devices. Moreover, some manufacturers intentionally make the sound different. For example, some Shanling devices, such as the M6 Ultra (my review), are deliberately tuned for a thicker low-end, which happens to intensify the sense of depth in the soundstage. Some Fiio devices such as KA3 are brighter in the treble, which can trigger the "wall of sound" illusion sometimes. Recently I reviewed a weird dongle from a company called ACMEE, and that one has noticeably more upper midrange that the soundstage overshoots, placing the vocals right at the back of my head.

One may say "not the same volume", "louder is better". Sure. But then, when I deliberately push the volume of one device louder and it still cannot reveals details that the other one can at a lower volume, then one has to admit that something is going.

Edit: one more point: some gaming laptop has very poor on-board DAC/amp. That can be the cause of the problem as well.
