Properly eq’d LCD 2Cs and LCDXs are some of the best headphones I’ve heard at their respective price points. The LCD series in general responds very well to EQ.

Wishing more people could just have this take and we could all move along lmao. I’ve seen so many posts about EQ during the 15 years I’ve been into the hobby, and it’s crazy to me how controversial it is.

I do hear more bass from the laptop than the E10k so I dont know which one is the actual sound of the headphone. It also experiences the same more bass on my smartphone although with less resolution. Could it be that the E10k are the ones thats bright? Or is the laptop emphasizing the bass.

I'll definitely give them a try out of the laptop to start off with

I could get a US dongle on ebay, but i've seen some FiiO Amp/Dac combos for sale near me for around £10 more than it would cost to import a dongle. At that point would it not be better to just get one of the FiiOs ?

Depending on your needs, the bass on a 2k IEM will destroy the 2k headphones. The openness on the 2k HP will destroy the 2k IEM. Nothing's perfect it's just what you need that matters. ( I own the hd600 so i can testify with knowledge, had the 64 audio Tia fourté in 2017 then um mest Indigo in 2022 )

Im using the E10k to drive my 6xx and the thing thats confusing me is that while both the laptop and the E10k are capable of reaching volumes that will blow my eardrums, they sound different (E10k is treble focused meaning I hear more details in strings and the laptop is more bass focused and I hear more power in percussion). Ideally I would want something in the middle while also adding more resolution (since the current discrepancy seems solvable by EQ).

Lots of comments in this subreddit state that if I am getting enough volume, there's no need to upgrade the amp and that amp does not change sound, yet the laptop and E10k is completely different to the point I dont know which is the real sound of the headphone. Hence, the dilemma of whether I should get the JDS atom since $100 is also a lot for someone quite new to the hobby.

Nobody is offended. Saying eq takes the variety out, and that it messes up what makes a headphone unique is just completely untrue. You’re never going to get one headphone to sound like another and there are more factors than FR that affect this. Proper EQ is mostly used to slightly smooth out anomalies and issues from the factory tuning, and sometimes even bring out the unique qualities the headphone presents. While it’s not the “end all be all” some people think it is, It’s a very useful tool if you have the time for it. Try giving it a fair shot when you have the time 👍

Also, people seem to think you have to use someone else’s preset eq for the best results. This is also false. EQ is an art imo (which is why it’s so time consuming). You have a great amount of freedom to make your headphone sound the most enjoyable if that’s the route you want to go.
