That's my current way of thinking. If I don't hear anything weird, I'm not gonna worry about it.

The guides I looked at prior to the mod made it look pretty easy (it's not difficult, just a few things to pay attention to).

Depending on the price I might still buy some replacement parts from Beyerdynamic and either go back to a fixed cable (but straight this time instead of coiled) or try again with a smaller plug.

Who the heck is Dale Cotton?

Sorry, but I wont bother reading a 20 page document by someone who has no credentials, so I simply skipped to the last page.

Sounds to me, like this guy just wasted an enitre afternoon writing a document only to express that he dislikes the 5128. Not very productive, is it?

I’m not super opposed to it but in my experience EQ never sounds better than stock. If I could perfectly EQ every headphone then there wouldn’t be any point in trying new stuff. It would be super boring.

I see some people say that they want to keep the unique sound of each headphone/Iem. Which I totally agree, but that is also the exact reason I use EQ!
For example, I feel like X headphone is suitable for female vocals, I would use EQ to further improve the strength and reduce the flaws of the headphone, from being great for female vocals to being perfect for it.

It does takes lots of work, especially when there is so much songs and genres. But to me, the ideal scenario is that I know which Headphone/Iem to pair with the right EQ for each of my favourite songs. It sounds crazy. I know. I am so obsessed with it, that I have at least 3 EQs for each of headphone and IEM. It's fun tho, and the music is awesome. :D

Well if you listen at 55-60db average then you will be using 1mW on average but on peaks it can reach a 100mW so anything that can deliver 200mW into the headphones impedance is good. EQ a 3.5kHz or 5kHz hole into the XS and watch the soundstage expand or alternatively use any kind of crossfeed and hear the magic.

HD555, HD558, HD595, HD598, HD599, HD600 and more

In the price range crappy SR850 or actually good, used HD430. Even some gaming headsets like crap from Plantronics.

Cheaper I guess even crappy Koss KPH7 which plays with only a narrow band of midrange or, I'm even scared to mention, boxy sounding $3 Shini S-520 seem better. Koss Porta Pro might be the worst one I have ever owned in that regard, although for just "tried" there might be some competition (HD201, Barracuda HP1, cheapest circumaural Philips).

Not to mention earphones, not only cheaper Qigom S300 White Lotus or Paiaudio PR1 destroy it, but even $9 FAAEAL Snow-Lotus 1.0 or $6 Iris Ancestor.

I will give Koss Porta Pro a really nice velvety low end which is usually unavailable for the price, and also low clamp force, but thats it (well treble are actually quite decent when there isn't anything else to interfere), certainly not imagining or soundstage.

I got these to try since DMS mentioned they beat the Chu and I've felt the cheapo chifi situation has gotten a bit out of hand and having some other options would be very welcome. Turns out these are damn nice. I've been supposed to make a proper Wan'er, Zero and Cadenza comparison, but luckily having a baby in between delayed it enough to add these in the set. Here's a first impressions after a few hours of listening.

The balance is excellent. Perhaps a tiny bit safe in the highs, but smooth and present. There's as much bass as you can cleanly add, but a bit of sub bass is missing in comparison to some of the others, but the transition from bass to mids suits much more genres than with the Salnotes Zero for example. Detail, timbre, everything is great. The staging feels wider than usual with IEMs which has it's benefits and issues. For critical listening it's nice, but on the go casual listening might feel a bit less engaging.

These can be worn cable over the ear or normally, but at least for me over the ear negatively affects the sound rather clearly. Volume drops, dynamics suffer and of course flipping the channels can be jarring when you're familiar with songs with the intended mix. The part resting on your concha is also a bit chucky and fit might not be ideal for small ears while the tip itself fits nicely.

These might actually be the best tuned IEM I've ever heard having a Dusk, Timeless etc. It does no tuning tricks like added treble, clear sub bass separation etc, but just does everything nice and smooth.
