You expressed open-minded approach in your comment before and it's laughably kind of approach condemned by this sub for quite some time. People want to gatekeep ad nauseum here when they hear some "trigger-topics", even when the message is simply "do what you like, check for yourself" lol.

iirc the paywall appears (only on Crinacle's site, squig.link doesn't have it) when you try to EQ one pair of earbuds to another with autoEQ or if you're using another target that isn't the IEF or Harman target. You can autoEQ to the current target, or you can just manually insert stuff and it'll be fine... or use squig.link and EQ the blessing2 to blessing2 dusk

If you got tube route, do something more obnoxious - Darkvoice 336i or Little Dot mk2. Still inexpensive but both have a very pronounced tube character. But really, take it from someone with a more high end rig built around the very similar HD650: you have total overkill with Piety and MMB2. I would just add some EQ to counteract the bass roll off, and the sound is just magical.

That sucks. One of the updates reset the names of my profiles but not the EQ settings themselves. Might want to see if that’s the case. Also, in case you’re not aware (I wasn’t at first) there’s a chrome plugin so you can modify the profiles and all other settings in a desktop browser. Still a bit tedious but better than using the phone app. They really need an export / import feature for profiles. That would serve as a backup method as well as making loading custom profiles much easier.

Personally I never liked the oratory (?) and such presets on every single headphone I own. I only sometimes use EQ if I want more bass, but could live without it.

Because i trust the sound engineer who designed the sound signature more than my own or some audio reviewer’s ability to set a headphone’s sound up well. If i adjust bass i might be losing details in the highs, if i adjust upper mids i might be losing lower mids. Headphone tuning is more complex than 12 graphs. There’s a lot more that goes into good sound than whether a sound comforms to an arbitrary target or my preferences which are largely based on what i’ve listened to before.

im really curious too as how these souls compared to the ie600 since im still in the return window for the the ie600 and although i only paid ~$500 it doesnt seem to be worth $500 imo being that they are really similarish to my 6xx although they are the size of a penny and sound similarish to my 6xx which is mind blowing

I find EQ to be a lot of work for very minor improvements. It's not as convenient as plug-and-play, and I also don't see the point in EQ-ing a headphone to a completely different tonality from stock (because if that's what you want, then you might as well, y'know, get a different headphone). I still fiddle with EQ from time to time but I won't buy a headphone that doesn't sound good enough without EQ to me.

I like over ear headphones for cooler weather to keep my ears warm, and they do that job while being comfortable and decently portable. The Oratory EQ curve is wild, it looks like the waveform of a song, but it does the job to make them decent (plugged into Qudelix).

The options actually aren’t that extensive for closed back over-ears, suitable for outdoor use. That’s a space dominated by the consumer brands like Beats, Bose, and their headphones sound even worse and in addition are overpriced. Something like the Focal Bathys is tempting, but it’s just way more than I need, for what ends up being podcasts, most of the time.

I recently bought a pair of HD 559 earpads (part 572287) and a pair of HD 599 earpads (part 572273), and took the stock pads from a barely used pair of HD 560S (pre-2022 revision) for comparison. The 559 pads are identical to the 560S pads, and the 599 pads are the same in brown colour.

It's possible that the difference you're hearing is merely due to pad wear, but it's also possible that you have pads from two different batches/revisions, or a pair of genuine pads and a pair of knock-off pads. Are there any visual differences between the two pairs of pads?
