> So today I got this DDHiFi unit and instantly it was a very noticeable upgrade to the Apple dongle and put the detail and clarity on par with my other systems.

Please post your test results! That is interesting!

Aren't those headphones heavy af? They weigh around 620 g if I remember. Also what's ur eq for them? I would have to raise that treble so much. Going by the charts they look darker than a hd 650. I always find myself raising the treble on all my headphones.

My IE80 from 7 years ago, and every Sennheiser IEM I've owned since, had shit eartips, a mediocre cable, and proprietary connectors.

It's good they might be trying, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I would treat any list moreso as just a single reference point to correlate other people's perceptions and preferences. The most important thing is to listen for yourself and come to your own conclusions, which you can then compare and contrast against crinacle (and other reviewers) to find who has closely matching preferences to your own.

For me, Resolve has very similar preferences to my own, with only slight deviations:

However, again, this is just another data point that is helpful to triangulate impressions. I still need to listen for myself to confirm where I fall with each headphone suggestion anyway.

I appreciate all of your graphs! Lots to ponder and think on. I will note, it’s not just my head as I’ve had several friends and family A/B my units as well and they’ve also noticed a difference — without any priming. Also, again, the device you’re measuring is different from my own…there’s a possibility that the implementation of the 44C’s identical chipset is very different from the 44B.

Moreover, at a certain point, I think these graphs fail to capture audible differences between different amps. I am a scientist by trade, so I do appreciate the seeming objectivity that these graphs provide and I’m also wary that I’m susceptible to placebo effect. However, from my own experience with the hobby thus far, I think there’s no substitute for trying devices out yourself!

As an aside, do you happen to have measurements of the Cayin RU6 on hand? I’m curious if that measures any differently as it’s R2R and not delta sigma!

His ranking does not take EQ into account and is only based on his preference, so unless your preferences align with his: No.

Generally, if you have literally NO IDEA what you are doing, it aint a bad place to get ideas as to what it is you want to TRY. And I say try, because buying blind leads to regrets more often than not.

You need to find out what kinda sound works for you and what kinda headphones are comfortable for you to wear. Don't buy the first one that sounds good to you either, try a bunch to confirm whether or not thats really the best one for you.

First things first - congrats! It's a really confouding, yet rewarding, feeling to find a setup that moves you deeply. :)

One quick note about the comments on the Arya's:

> The aryas, in my experience, cant be bass boosted at all, it distorts very easily. > > the Aryas however will distort the bass if you try to listen to higher volumes.

Are they the older non-Stealth versions? And more to the point, are you exclusively listening to them through the Valhalla 2? If so, it's possible that you may be current limited, and switching to a different, more suitable, amp can alleviate the issues above.

There are two possibilities here, either this is in your head, or you have a faulty unit.

Here's some measurements of my ddHifi TC44B vs the Moondrop MoonRiver 2, using an IEM. I used the 64 Audio Tia Trio, which is the closest I have to your Nio. It also has the Linear Impedance Design to sound the same, and it also similar very low impedance (5.5Ω Trio, 6Ω Nio).

There are actually two lines on that graph, although you might have to look very closely to see that. There is NO variance in the frequency response.

Like I said, I have something of an open mind on discussion on stuff sounding different. There are various ways things could possibly sound different. But this dongle is not "extremely bassy". It is entirely flat and does not change the tonal characteristics of the headphone at all, in any way.

in my experience albeit limited, you won't lose significant performance if you get the 200 rather than the 300. I have both and the 200 is more fun and smooth than the 300. the 300 can sound muffled at times. vocal sounds clearer on the 200. the 200 is much closer to the harman curve, with a sennheiser treble.
