Oof yeah that may be a different story, I was just talking about mine though!

I had seen a youtube reviewer also say that one of their earcups came loose in shipping.

This is a really helpful list, it's another rabbit hole to go down. It's most important they feel comfortable and seal well but you can tweak the tonality of the IEM a bit by tip rolling.

I use Final E tips because it tames the spicy treble a bit. Other than Final E, many people seem to like AZLA's (multiple models all a little different), Senn IE Pro tips, SpinFits (multiple models, W1 is the newest but may increase treble a bit), Spiral Dots, Spring Tips. The HeadFi IE600 thread has a lot of comments about different eartips.

You can get a lot of eartips off Ali Express for dirt cheap including popular brands if you don't mind the wait. Some like AZLA are expensive everywhere.

How do they compare to the IE 300? I just bought the IE 300 because they are at a reduced price but im having the connection issue you described. I like the performance of the IE 300 and was just wondering if it was worth it to trade them for IE 200.

I think Hifiman report is their numbers in dB/mW, meaning the HE560 would take only 0.49V to reach 100dB. That would put their sensitivity at 106dB/V, making them still a fair bit more sensitive than the Venus.

What tips would you recommend for the 600s then? Just got a pair in as I wanted to try them, curious how much of a difference aftermarket options would make.

I like a lot of headphones but here are five of note:

  1. Susvara - If I could characterize this headphone tonally, it would be as a symbol- the Yin Yang. Befitting considering it’s heritage. This headphone is perfectly balanced. And as such, I believe HiFiman created the most timbre accurate headphone I’ve heard. The Susvara is the only headphone I’ve listened to that crosses the uncanny valley completely from reproduction to believability and because of this, it’s performance is more than the sum of it’s parts. If I had one gripe, it would be that the imaging isn’t as precise as a Focal. Though this does lends a certain etherealness to it that is arguably just as interesting as perfect imaging.

  2. Focal Utopia (OG, I haven’t heard the new one yet) - The best imaging headphone I’ve heard. Approached perfection in many ways but never crossed the valley because of Focal’s house sound. This is Focal’s best headphone and strikes the best balance in their lineup.

  3. Abyss AB-1266 - Perhaps the most fun you can have without taking your clothes off. It’s like hiring a world class prostitute. None of this is natural, but it’s fucking great.

  4. Focal Clear Mg - I agree with OP. This headphone is dynamic incarnate. It’s more dynamic than the Utopia. At some point it felt like kick drums would punch a hole straight through my eardrum, in a good way. Considered this might have been my endgame for awhile but ultimately the mids are fucked- particularly male vocals. I did find out the weird tonality does lend itself to reproducing the timbre of water perfectly for some reason. Still the best rendition of Yosi’s Fluid that I’ve heard so far. Combined with Focal’s best-in-the-world imaging, it does it better than the Susvara.

  5. KSC75 - Minus the sub bass, tonally amazing. Also the soundstage is just shocking- goes way past the headphones somehow. I feel like this headphone grounds us in a world of ever escalating prices. I never get tired of listening to these and still do often.

That’s all good to know! That said, I absolutely can hear a difference between the Apple Dongle and and the TC44C on my Nios as well in terms of bass response. 64 Audio Units are built to not be source picky, and I’ve found that’s generally true in most instances. For example, there is very little difference between the sound out of my Ferrum Erco and the Apple Dongle for my Nios. However there’s definitely an audible mid-bass boost at comparable volume levels between the TC44C and the Apple Dongle. Ditto when using my Burson Playmate 2 with OpAmp upgrades.

For detail retrieval, however, I do agree that I can’t hear any extra details between these sources, though some (like the Erco) provide better imaging capabilities than the others, which does make perceived detail better. Anyways, I’d encourage everyone reading to try out these sources and IEMs themselves before coming to conclusions…looks like you have the cousins of both of my devices, but I don’t think that’s a proper substitute for in-person A/B testing with the exact same ones.
