You're right in your assumption, I haven't heard any estats. The only one I have accessible to me is the Audeze CRBN which is apparently not very representative of that driver technology. And yes I'd love to hear older versions of the Utopia because this one sounded amazing to me.

I saw these headphones on a podcast earlier, they look really nice and solid with comfy earcups, any ideas what are these headphones? I'm sorry if this is the wrong sub to post on, the other 2 subs didn’t seem suitable for identification, as one is for advice and the other for showing off a collection or setup. Thanks in advance!

Nice, I would love to try the SLJr. at some point, and you actually own one!

I'd also have to agree on the LCD-Xs comfort, weight feels very evenly distributed on my head.

Good to know that about the CRBN - it's the only e-stat readily accessible to me so I don't wanna get the wrong idea about them.

DCA headphones dont really grasp my attention, but I'd love to come across them someday due to their popularity.

it's not a big deal, weird looking at first but then it gets bigger and looks ok. These are a great pair of IEMs, I would still use them daily if the cable wasn't in a bad condition. totally worth it

Yeah the pads are very shallow. I got them from Amazon Warehouse for £70 so thought I’d give them a try, I really like them but like I said, I don’t have much experience. Only other two sets I’ve used were the X2HR and ATH MSR7B

Thanks for the links, I’ll check them out later

I did this about a month ago and went with a Mini XLR plug. The hole for the plug was probably made a bit too far on the inside (towards the head). I had to remove parts of the outer plastic ring and fabric, that’s around the driver, otherwise it wouldn't fit anymore. The inner plastic ring closer to the driver is still fully intact, same with the rest of the fabric.

Is that plastic just to hold the driver in place and make it look nice or would removing parts of it change anything about the sound?

I chose the 990s, since they aren't my main headphones anymore and since I could buy replacement parts, if I screwed up.

I did some basic testing immediately after and used them normally during the last few days and don't notice anything weird, but I know my ears aren't the best.

People have been researching the audibility of various distortions of audio signals since at least the 50s, we have a pretty dang good idea of what is audible and what is not when measured in controlled conditions in terms of absolute volume, harmonic distortion, intermodulation, phase shift, crosstalk, etc. But most importantly, we know beyond reasonable doubt that human senses are very sensitive to bias, and the humble $9 Apple dongle is unlikely to fare well in a sighted a/b test.

you can try a custom EQ by going to oratory1990's wiki and looking up your headphone model. autoEQ uses his measurements and automatically creates an EQ tuned to harman's in-ear target, but oratory1990's measured all of them by hand and created his own EQs for them as well. there's the harman in-ear target and his custom target (which is similar to harman but with more mid bass and less upper-mids). IMO it's worth trying both of them out as well.

if you want, I can create a wavelet file for those that you can download on your phone and import into wavelet

The hd600 is greatly tuned, but the mids are actually quite a bit different. If you check the fr of the headphones on crinacle.com, you will notice the hd600 has some elevation in the 1k area that the ksc75 lacks, added with a slightly laid back "middle-midrange" the ksc75 actually follows the target more closely than the hd600. I've played around with eq with my ksc75 and hd560s, and when eqing the hd560s to the hd600 target, if that's at all what they sound like, they're quite different from the ksc75.

My adoptive son (cat) has similarly chewed half a dozen cables. I had to replace a 569 cable just a few weeks ago. I suggest trying something nylon braided, he seems to leave that kind of cable alone. Soft chewy rubber is more appealing. New Fantasia is the cable brand that I’ve found to be pretty satisfactory shopping on Amazon, decent prices and solid build quality. It won’t matter for how the headphones sound.
