He jumped at the top of the downhill part leading to the actual jump and landed on the uphill part of the ramp. He should have bent his knees and absorbed the little kicker zipped down the steep part and then off the ramp at the bottom.

Yeah, the 'knees locked' bit really made me cringe.
I don't know who these people are that don't know you flex your knees when landing any jump on any surface, but I feel sorry for them.
Tl;dr wear helmets and flex your knees!

Reminds me of walking around Kochi, India where sidewalks are nonexistent. First time a bus (people call them red killers there for a reason) passed me like that my whole life flashed before my eyes but after it happened again and again in a span of a short 15 minute walk it just felt like a mild inconvenience mostly due to the dirt and sand that follows the bus and hits the back of your neck when it passes.

Ouch! Just the incorrect amount of speed for that specific drop. Landing on a flat, especilly with knees locked can f'up your legs.
