No. The story is pretty cheesy and bad and each game is mostly standalone and doesn't require knowledge of the others to enjoy.
It's worth playing through all of them because they're good games though.

Dishonored. The next mission changes based on your actions in the previous mission. If you were never detected, the wanted posters are blank because they never saw you. And if you don’t kill anyone, a large portion of missions play out differently

Splinter Cell, if I recall correctly.

Try out a game called "Eldritch" (by minor key games)ю you are so powerless, that you can't even be violent!

Play the remakes of 1, 2 and 3.
Other entries did not age well, just watch Sphere Hunters videos on Zeron and the Chronicle games.

I’d play the 1 and 2 remasters then 4. Or just watch a catch up video on YouTube. 4 was a total shift in tone and gameplay for the franchise. It’s a masterpiece imo

not really.

The first 2 are excellent games. Leon is in the second game so it would be worth playing. 4 was a shift in the series toward action...

Is that first one the Game That Shall Not Be Named or a different one?

- Xenoblade Chronicles 3
- Hades
- Elden Ring (I had very mixed feelings about this one but the high points were really good even though the low points sucked a lot.)
And some older ones I picked up again that still hold up:
- FTL
- Portal 2

I hope they do. RE5 was my favourite because of the co-op.

Nah it was broken. You had to use a beta build of the game and edit some game files to get it to work.
Still though RE5 might not be my favorite but it was the best one, so they have to.
T-800-Carl t1_jbhzm0b wrote
Is this a sign they are working on an RE5 remake or just coincidence.

Story wise 0-3 are connected. 4 is a soft reboot (the intro recaps the events of 0-3 very briefly, but do not directly influence the story). 5-6 are more stand alone, but build off elements introduced in 4. 7 is another soft reboot for the series (minimal references to older games), and Village is a direct continuation of 7.
