After my experience with the PS2 and GameCube, I told myself I would never purchase a game unless I'm ready to play it.

I often bought games with the intention of playing them, but a new release would come along, and I never got around to it. This happened many times.

When I sold my PS2 with the games, many were still in their shrink wrap.

That really showed me just how much I was spending on hype rather than games.

Returnal was Spring '21 and Rift Apart came out that summer. I was just saying that, when Returnal released, it was really one of only 2 true "next-gen" PS5 games. All the rest were still being made on the previous generation. I think this game got a lot of extra attention because the arena of true next gen games was pretty slim at the time.

Pathfinder WOTR.

Bought it and all the DLC. Love rpgs and it was just miserable. Everything i did all i could think about is ‘i bet theres a mod that fixes this on PC’

I got to the same point like 3 times and was just like F this.

Path of Exile is far more complicated and unforgiving but WoTR felt like they tried to be more convoluted and obtuse.

I mean, games are about solving problems. Changing up what the problems you're focused on keeps things fresh. I find any game where you just go full auto constantly against bullet sponge enemies snore inducing. Every single bullet should feel like an actual event, but a lot of games measure health pools in magazines, not rounds.

Romance for me I think. RPG’s that have a fleshed out romance with lots of choices and consequences. It feels like most games with romance are linear, you either romance someone or you don’t and maybe there is a few different lines you can get depending on what you say.

And I am aware there is dating sims and stuff like that, but I am more refering to full on RPG’s that have fleshed out gameplay and a story with choices, but with fleshed out romance options that can maybe go down 5 different paths. With drama, jealousy, love triangles, romance affecting the main story, all that fun stuff.

The only thing wrong with RE5 and 6 is the action, and judging by overwhelmingly positive reactions to RE4 gameplay, that was never the issue to begin with either.

All RE5 and 6 are is a step up from RE4 in every way but story and atmosphere, which are actually worse. I see more praise for RE4 than i do praise for RE5 and 6. I also see a ton of praise for RE8 which is, again, kinda making the RE community look bipolar because RE7 uh...... "saved" (not really) the franchise and was popularized as a return to the series roots (not really).

Just don't understand the bipolarity of this fanbase. One game we hate action mechanics and variety in RE6, then we want more of it in RE7, then everyone goes nuts that RE8 has more combat focus, but we also love the RE2 Remake for having the over the shoulder perspective and allowing more visceral action, but bash RE3R because it's shorter and linear but otherwise similar to RE2 in every other way, and we've gone to praising the RE4 Remake for having the same mechanics people hated RE6 for in the first place........

I got unhinged in that last bit but i just can't understand people anymore. It's like no fanbase can even make up their minds what they want anymore.

This game is amazing. I never played a bullet hell game and this made me a huge fan of it. Difficulty curve is there but becomes less and less as you improve. Well...if you improve lol, if you don't adapt and learn then game is probably rough for you.

Overall I told everyone I knew to buy this game and play it. Was Best game on ps5 for awhile imo.

I get that. And I also refuse to buy new games that need a launcher.

However, I already bought games that need this and I just really want to play them as I paid for them. So for now, I will just have to accept it. Doesn't make it less annoying though.

But I do refrain from buying new games that need launchers. Who knows, if enough of us do this, they might actually stop this nonsense.

I thought I would like photo-realistic graphics years ago, but what games have them, I hated.

There was an indie game on Steam that had realistic graphics about a year ago, and I stopped playing within an hour because the herbs I needed were so subtle that I could never find them. So it looked GREAT, but it made looking for what you wanted much more difficult and frustrating.

Maybe for games like shooters where all you do is shoot stuff, it's okay, but I wouldn't want it for survival games or anything where I interact with the environment.
