Because it was very important to the course of the video game market. It sucked and that's the point. Landmark game doesn't just mean what game was good that year, it's what was important.

1998 must have been a big push for narrative in games, seeing Half-Life and Metal Gear Solid both released that year.

Ok, that was still a cliffhanger, just a bit less trauma inducing xD

Gets me too, especially in Sea of Thieves.

I'd heard cyberpunk was all buggy - like excessive dildos in the street os something....did they resolve that?

I highly recommend the classic puzzle game Portal, which has held up phenomenally well for a game from 2007.
It uses a control scheme similar to what you’ll find in a lot of games, where you move around with one hand and aim and use a camera with the other, but it doesn’t rely on precise timing, aiming, or movement. The challenge is purely intellectual.
So it will be a good opportunity to get used to common control schemes.
It’s also hilarious.

Very relaxing but the combat was pretty shallow. Once I got a hang of the controls almost every battle played out the same. They should have made the bosses more puzzle-based.

Nope, me too. 3D platform games give me constant anxiety when the level has bottomless pits.

It's been internet lingo for a while. I'm suprised so many people act like it's weird to say something is aesthetic.

9 for me. Access to almost every game each console has had (barring ps3 for ps5), lightning fast load times, 4k graphics and/or 60fps (not at the same time usually, access to tons of games via subscription, and the new games are starting to get good. Only downside is price of games (but I'm old enough to afford the odd brand new one now) and availability. I'm mainly talking ps5 here.

It's "legit difficult" because you barely have any control. I tried playing it the other day and gave up after about an hour of frustration. I don't want to be too hard on it, because I know first person shooter controls hadn't been well established at the time and I don't remember having such a hard time when I was a kid. If there is a more modern control scheme (instead of splitting looking and moving the way that it does), it would be a lot easier. I just can't wrap my head around it now.

How retro? Atari vcs might be a good fit. With the free version of antstream installed, you’ll have access to thousands more retro games.

I understand that people think it’s stupid to spend money on a mobile game but some people don’t have PCs or playstation to play Apex on. I personally never played any mobile games like this and I enjoyed it enough to spend some money on it, i treated myself to a small gift for christmas on a game that i really enjoyed and i worked on to become better at. It’s truly just a slap in the face to see the effort put into something being for nothing :(

Mario on NES
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Donkey Kong Country 1-3
Zelda Link to the Past
Zelda Ocarina of Time
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Final Fantasy 6 (or 3 for North America release, depends how ROM is labeled)
Luigi Mansion
I'm biased towards Nintendo but I think all of these games have held up just fine. Maybe original Mario is a bit stupid to kids these days though but the Super Nintendo one is better.

Linear storytelling is the only kind of storytelling. Time is linear, our lives are lived in time. Anything else is just “events that happen” or gameplay.

Reply to Why is Dead Space so much scarier than Alien Isolation? Is it the Necromorphs? by LordRevanofDarkness
I mean. You’re comparing Dead Space to a near 10 years old game. I think Alien Isolation holds up really well and is terrifying. Haven’t played the new dead space but it looks pretty damn good.
