That's not how iPhones work. You can't factory reset away ownership on them, they stay tied to the iCloud account.
Hence this whole damned conversation...

I don’t have any insight beyond the (paywalled) article. The M2 is nowhere near the leap in performance previous Apple Silicon generations have made us expect, however.

Got a free Alexa from my grandma and wasn't a fan. Got the hub for $50 black Friday sale and the video monitor made a huge difference with our initial usage. Got the smart lights for $5 a piece for a different black Friday sale and it was a lifesaver for bed time with a chunky almost 1 year old and clingy almost 3 year old. However, they can barely talk so we have little concerns with purchases for the moment, but we also don't have any cards attached to the Google account, we just made a family one.

The downside is that people expect it now from everyone. When you run a small open source project and folks try to hold you hostage to pay, it sucks. Plus a lot of folks do scans all the time hoping to find a vulnerability against your servers

I had my 8+ for 2 years, then got an 11 Pro Max.
My mother in law is still using my 8+. Dang good phones.

Title forgets to note that the bill is essentially useless as well.

I would assume currently iPhones do not have any unlock mechanism - however, laws can force Apple to change their design, like the recent EU ruling that is forcing Apple to add support for multiple app stores on future iPhones

Every theft is a chance to get caught.
I understand the separation, but the way the post was worded, it sounded like advocating for being able to unlock locked devices, which means getting access to user data.
Before the device locking (device tied to account, requires unlock), phone theft was more profitable, because tossing the sim card and resetting it was trivial. Now that we have stolen phone databases (carriers refuse phone on the network when stolen), device sign in requirements (phone serial attached to account and required to unlock), and on device encryption, now we have a different problem.
From what I understand via RtR, the problem is not this, but being able to connect replacement parts that are serialized for security reasons. It is a security risk to have a bugged part paired such as a touchscreen or print reader that can easily have an extra chip used to steal customer info. The problem that it clashes with RtR is with manufacturers not providing a way to put official parts on yourself (such as re-pairing these serialized parts with the device).

Artisanal, organic meth. The kind of meth you’d find at the local farmer’s market instead of those big box retailers. Meth made with love.

i guess that’s fair, i have littles at home too, honestly i feel like i would just probably forget to use it if i had it lol. these things have never seemed worth it to me but i’m glad there’s people who enjoy them! im definitely not much of a consumer in many ways. i have a couple friends who basically have their whole apartments fitted with these or the amazon alexa one though
are your kids able to make online orders / purchases from these? that’s a deterrent also i’ve seen with the amazon ones is kids just started ordering shit willy nilly racking up charges

Makes sense, i mean what would you even do with more power? We've reached peak smartphone already.
