The greatest thing about this is that the original was just supposed to be a whole army of Robert Patricks fighting against Arnold in hopes of defeating him by overwhelming him. Once the director saw Robert Patrick meld through the bars, he stopped production and had the writers rewrite the script to be just one RP with the meld ability. He did all his own stunts and everything else in real time with live ammo to make the holes in his body created by firepower more realistic. He even did the final scene humself. They saved $50 mil on cgi, but it did come at a price. They misjudged the temperature of the molten metal in the end scene and while it didn't kill him, it did destroy his ability to ever do melding again. This is why you've never seen him do it in another movie. They did give him $20 mil to compensate him. That is about $40 million today. Next time you watch T2, raise a glass to Robert Patrick, the greatest actor ever!

Between the years 1985 and 1992, doctors at the King/Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, treated some 118 people for random falling-bullet injuries. Thirty-eight of them died.

Yeah, totally not fatal. Guess they must have been allergic.
