As a northern white - am I wrong? I didn’t even know what collard greens were until I was in my mid 20s. I even asked a southern black kid to explain it to me (because that’s what he told me he requested be part of his birthday dinner) he just said ‘you know … greens.’ I was like alright yeah I have no idea what he’s talking about so I’ll figure it out on my own.

Charred baby gem is some blue riband michelin star level gastronomie - I've had it at a fancy place and it was delicious, would not attempt it at home. Its got to be crisp and not limp, charred and not burned, I know I'd mess it up.

I made this for my grandson’s 4th birthday. He loves fire trucks and Lego so I made everything from fondant and sugar to cover the homemade vanilla buttercream-filled strawberry cake.
