I feel like I'd like to see this as a scatterplot. Thought about it as a kind of 2x2, the four buckets are each independently substantively interesting. You might have low income/low cost areas... low income/high cost areas... high income/high cost areas... or high income/low cost areas. It'd be interesting to see how they compare.
Actually... just whipped it up in data commons... basically this:

Debra was also about 30 when diagnosed. She got lucky: if you catch appendix cancer in Stage 1 like they did for her, it's basically "snippy snippy, congrats, you're cured!" She's since had all the other recommended prophylactic surgeries and gotten her kids genetically tested.
I'm a geneticist working on cancer treatments, so this is all Relevant To My Interests. Most hereditary cancer syndromes are caused by a DNA repair or checkpoint gene being mutated (no surprise, CHEK2 = checkpoint gene). I'd think you'd be equally likely to get cancer in any tissue type with that kind of problem. But instead, there are very strong patterns to which organs the cancers tend to start in.
Hooray for being able to ID these mutations and what tends to go wrong. Now we have some clue what to watch out for in each person. And I wish you better luck going forward.

A Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is a geographical region with a relatively high population density at its core and close economic ties throughout the area. MSAs can encompass multi-state areas. MSAs are defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

My previous post used the Median Sales Price of Existing Single-Family Homes (2022 Q4) from the National Association of Realtors, but that data set only contained data on ~180 Metropolitan Statistical Areas.
The Median Home Listing Price data set from St. Louis Fed listed more than twice as many MSAs, so I used that.
if you can find actual home sales price data for more of the MSAs (390+), please let me know!

Unfortunately they are all lumped into a single Metropolitan Statistical Area on both data sets

Ameriprise. Would they be considered ‘bank’? Though, I’m pretty sure they grew through the crisis through a well timed purchase of a trading arm.

What do you mean? They look to be pretty much the same as the rest of the country, just at ~30 instead of ~20. Not really that much of an outlier.

I wish my team had presented this to me in advance, or at least something like it. I keep feeling blindsided by the "but wait there's more" aspect of my treatment.

My friend Katie died of her chek2 mutation at age 32. It was long and horrible and she told me that if she could go back, she'd get the surgeries. It's not as famous as BRCA but it has a range of health effects. No woman on that side of my family has lived past 50

As a Minnesotan in the twin cities, I really haven't seen any failures. I wonder if smaller rural banks failed.

This data is 'interesting' and thought provoking ... but far from beautiful (and you really need the range of years to be on the graph somewhere).
