It has to do with a guy who collected meteorites during the Depression

Excellent work. Tell me, which Reddit should I join if I wanna see more of these types of maps and get info on how to make them? I’m trying to create a beautiful user experience with custom maps in Mapbox for iOS but it needs to be real-time rendering and have been experimenting with QGIS over the past for days with data from GEBCO.

There is also a difference about childcare infrastructure and at what age children do start school full time.
Moreover, I think you have to take into account the growing number of families relying on only one parent.
But as stated above, there is a lot of extrapolation from few data points.

And the oceans…this is a clear case of survivorship bias.

I did a lot of research the first time it came out, I will need to find it again. But this is the idea, how can you conclude on something on a graph finishing in 2010 where your last figure is 1999 that you are actually comparing to something from 1974. The precise content of the questions also was questionable as obviously they were not the same between the different studies.

In source paper you can see there are more points for France, 1965, 1974, 1998–1999 and it shows dünne decline. So where you have your stated problem?

Indeed. Been having fantasies of starting my own bookstore but need that sweet upfront capital…

The French have an attitude that has been broadening in that period that suggests independence is more valuable for children and that parents shouldn't be living for their children. The acceptance of this is likely becoming mainstream. Speaking as an American married to a European (not French), the societal pressure is to live for your children and sacrifice everything for them as if it's good so more must be better. As we shift to one child households this dedication to the one or two children becomes even greater.
I have no data to back this up. It's just my cultural experience and perception.

It’s just a stupid data source very wrongly extrapolated. This came some time back on Reddit and there is actually only two data points for France and the rest has been extrapolated.

people look for that you know, and your resume gets trashed for it.

I am looking for a new mid/senior position since January 1st.
Over 300 applications. Ghosted on 50% and declined without follow-up on 40%. Never had such a bad response rate.
After interviews I look for current workers on LinkedIn to chat with and (until now) every offer I got was 20% lower than theirs — and 3-4 people that are new at the company told that their offer was already 10-15% lower than someone that was already there when they arrived.
Fortunately for my pocket I am still employed, but I can’t say the same for my sanity.
Good luck!

More like a map of where people notified NASA about meteors striking. An actual map of meteor strikes would probably have a normal distribution.

Greece and Italy would be pretty difficult recognize, but otherwise I think it'd still be pretty obvious as it sits between two continents. I'd love to see a map like that one day though.

In my experience, it seems like companies are trying to do a wage reset after the COVID era made wages livable. Telling anyone my current salary is a good way to get ghosted fast, but just looking at my resume gives an idea that my expected salary is probably going to be on the higher end.
I've also noticed that the jobs in my salary filter have progressively shifted from "senior position" to "CTO/team lead" for the same pay over the last 6-8 months.

I don’t like this projection. Greenland appears larger than the continental United States when it’s really about a fifth of the size or even compare it to Australia.
This means that a huge area of the graphic is dedicated to no data whatsoever whereas the real data is clumped together in the middle areas where a greater level of detail would be more helpful.

Yep! A hundred years ago people noticed that meteorites were easy to find in Kansas - flat land with deep soil and without any rocks, so if you did find one, it was probably a meteorite. Museums sent out people to do their collecting there. It became a joke - the gods hate Kansas. There's a pulp novel with that title
