Mr. Music in Allston is one of the few remaining local independent stores, serving a lot of rock musicians over the years in the neighborhood who practice nearby.

Imagine thinking you can find free parking in a city that requires residents to pay for a parking place at their own home/apt. You’re not going to find free parking. Most hotels don’t offer that anymore either(even in other states and cities). You paid for a parking space. It’s just how it works.

It blows my mind that paying $2-$10 for garage parking at a station is a dealbreaker for people.

Not for me! Our town was notorious for never canceling school. The two towns that bordered my town were also alphabetically before and after my town. They would always close and it was always very disappointing when it would go from one and skip my town to the other.

Probably owned by Fairfield Realty. They have tons of cheap studios in Back Bay but they’re kind of slummy and breaking the law (for example, you leave trash out in the hallways on trash day, they don’t provide bins outside). They must not want to deal with people reporting them.

And who owns Blackrock? Pension plans that will need to pay out or is there another major generational asset holder I’m missing?

I know this isn’t the answer to your question, but one thing you should really keep an eye out for while you’re still here is steak tips - either in a store or at restaurants.
AFAIK they’re a local-ish thing and are generally a cheap way to enjoy steak. And even on top of that, because they’re generally fairly tough cuts of meat, lots of places have unique ways of marinating/tenderizing them.

Not shitty at all FYI, the quality is very good and the prices are reasonable, but if cheap is key, MB is cheaper. Also check the weekly circulars for the big grocery stores. Sometimes they run specials (As others have said)

It’s not exactly free, but most T stations have small parking lots that charge ~$5 to park all day. And, depending on which one you park at (I used to to do this at Eliot station on the green line a lot), you can often skip paying and no one will ticket you. And if they do, it only costs $1 over the original rate (at least it used to).

Seriously though, if OP's friend is too cheap to spend $6/day, Boston isn't the city for them.

Cheaper to pay for it than get it for free. You can spend $40 on parking and spend 2 hours less on the subway.

no joke, commuting is some of the most soul crushing time you can spend on this planet. For those interested in slightly off kilter suggestion, get a bunch of people you like and buy a house together. Splitting a mortgage 5 ways for a multi-family is pretty affordable (at least compared to the rents these days) you can live in the city, pretty close to your job, walk or bike there, and honestly if you like the people, and have a lawyer work up a little agreement its not so bad.
Does this fix anything with the larger structural problems? No it doesn't. Might it get you a nice place to live close to your job...maybe?

Park at a T station with a parking lot. Parking can be paid by mobile app at most now. 9 dollars a day, better peace of mind.
