Yeah, I don't get giving seniors a break on property taxes. Old people own all the damn property. Give young people who own nothing a break. If an old person is struggling to pay property taxes then they bought something they couldn't afford. They can get a roommate to help pay expenses. That is what they tell young people to do.

Responsible? Probably landlord. You really want to endure the chirp from hell every 60 seconds because it’s not your job though?

You can't wait it out. Saving money is being outpaced at the rate of interest rate and home price increases. If you aren't already in, you aren't going to be able to save your way in unless you start making 30% more annual salary.
A lot of us are utterly fucked by treating housing like investments and businesses. Eventually most people in our situation will get sick of endless rent increases and leave for cheaper locations. Boston either starts to fix this now or will see some serious exodus from the mid-high level salary ranges (140-200k) which represents a lot of Boston's workforce and then has knock-on effects on the service industry and small businesses.

Get a small efficient space heater for the area near the glass and some wool socks and stop turning the heat up so high.
The last bill on our 1200 Sq ft very drafty condo was $217. Rarely turn the heat above 65.

Thank you. It gets really cold here to the point of my finger nails turning blue. I sit right by where the glass door is. Feels more like room temperature at 73.

Bus dwell times mostly, green and buses are most likely to see improvements by allowing all door boarding

That will happen when you set your thermostat to Turkish bazaar mode.

Pro tip: Do a quick stop to get the ice on your roof to come down in front of your windshield. It acts as armor and will protect you from flying ice.

Reply to What is the closest thing you’ve had delivered out of sheer refusal to leave the house by Previous-Aspect-3171
I haven't ever done anything really wild, maybe a couple places that were like a 15 minute walk or so. However, back when I worked at the Chipotle in Harvard Square (RIP, good riddance) we had a delivery order for the store upstairs, which I believe was an REI or some other outdoors store. The driver didn't even have to leave the building or take the stairs, because there was an escalator right through our side door in the building lobby. Not a big order either, like a single burrito or something. I assume they had a delivery only promo, otherwise it makes no sense.

>The MBTA expects to collect 450M in fares this year, making up about 25% of the budget, this project will last about 20 years given the last fare implementation, so with straight line depreciation that’s still only 10% of expected post pandemic revenue
From their post.
But even if they didn't include that, they didn't say "let's throw good money after bad money". They said "cancelling the money wouldn't get the money back" with an unspoken "so your comparrison only makes sense in hindsight"

I mean we keep turning up the thermostat because it feels cold (we sit pretty close to where the glass door is).

As others have pointed out, you’re running your heater really hot, hence the high bill. You have every right to do this, but going for 66-68 degrees with a sweater would save you a shit load of money.

73 degrees, are you nuts? My heat won’t touch a temperature starting with 7. You pretty much explained it yourself. If you want to cook yourself in your unit at 33 cents kW/h you’re gonna have a bad time.

I mean you answered your own question with the price increase and ramping up the thermostat. Ours never goes above 67

You think that’s bad?
Rented a place in Somerville with roommates. I had my own room heater, that I only turned on at night to 65, but our bill was above $800 for the month of December.
I found my own place so quick.
