My best general advice: do not go to any "chain" office like Gentle Dental. I went to Gentle Dental in Allston after a year of not going to the dentist, was told I had 9 cavities, and the dentist recommended I get them (all) filled in the office right away. I told him I wanted a copy of the x-ray sent to my dentist back home, who told me the x-rays were illegible and a dentist could "see" anything he wanted to in them. When I went to my home dentist the following summer, he only saw one worrisome spot that ended up not even turning into a cavity.

My recommendations:

Dr. Spitz (I know) and the whole team at Smile Boston in Brookline were great for me for a while until insurance issues. Very welcoming, informed me of recommended procedures, helped me navigate insurance, and were understanding of my dental anxiety.

Now I go to Brighton Family Dental behind St. Elizabeth's and the team there is also great, and in my insurance network.

My comment was meant to imply that whether they degrade service to rebuild the line while keeping it running, or they shut the line down to rebuild it faster or more completely, it's going to impact people either way. The same effects you mention will happen, regardless of which option is chosen, although if the line is kept running in some reduced capacity, there might be less of it. When the line is brought back up to full service, the world will be different either way.
