I didn't go to school in Boston. But I can say things about the locations. Suffolk is as downtown as you can get. So, Boston Common and Beacon Hill are kind of part of your campus. UMass Boston is right next to Carson Beach - a bit of a walk from the JFK/UMass T stop.

I went to Suffolk for a year before transferring. Many people will say the same thing. I used to joke we were the biggest feeder school for Northeastern and BU; it seemed like everyone wanted to transfer there.

I actually loved Suffolk as the dorms were really nice (2/3 buildings are amazing) and I met most of my best friends there. It’s in a fantastic location in the city whereas UMB is a bit farther out. The class sizes were really small which was a huge plus because it meant your professors probably knew you, sort of like HS but in a more chill way.

What is your intended major? I went for CS and would not have recommended it at all at the time (maybe it’s changed in the past 4 years) but the Business school is solid.

Same buildings for the most part, just obscured by trees in the new photo. If you want to imagine anywhere in New England 100 - ~400 years ago, just take away all of the trees.

It's different than the intentional landscaping we see here, but most of Massachusetts was once a relatively treeless landscape of rolling farmland reminiscent of the English country side.

Yeah, I am in Massachusetts.

The landlord could take the deposit to cover reasonable damages incurred. If it's included in the lease that the tenant isn't allowed to hang anything and they do, then the landlord could presumably take this from the security deposit. If the tenant feels this is unfair, the onus would be on them to take the landlord to court (which, even at 3x the damages seems unlikely), at which time I would suspect the landlord would point to the language in the lease.

I agree with your point, though. OP should definitely create a paper trail requesting to install curtains/that curtains be installed at the tenant's cost.

I love the fact locals have an accent, I’m currently in Texas and I rarely hear a southern/Texan accent

Excuse me there tourist, you must not be familiar with the port city of Boston. Nobody here says Beantown. Please enjoy this documentary about our diverse aquatic life.

There are plenty of clubs in the Boston area, who is best kind of depends on your background, where you live, and how serious you are looking to get once you know what you are doing. Any team can welcome new players and does it routinely, there are always a few people just learning to play on every team.

I have to plug my club, Charles River, which has both a Men's team and a Women+ team. Celebrating our 50th year of rugby this year, very successful division 3 club that is also fun and social. We play at Moakley Park in Boston (like most Boston clubs) and practice at various fields around the city through the year. South Shore is another great club. Mystic River in Malden is by far the best club in New England, the only d1 club and recent National Champions to boot. Along with that comes a very competitive and demanding environment. Boston Maccabi in Newton are a Jewish club (but obviously anyone is welcome), Boston Ironsides are a gay club (but again, all players welcome).

On the women's side, Beantown is one of the best clubs in the country, and several of its players play on the national team. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer.

Are you in Massachusetts? The only way the landlord could take any of the deposit is if they go to Court. If they have access to the deposit (not in a security deposit account) they are breaking the law and will pay 3x. No discussion. They would also need pictures from the move in of that window not having curtains before. THEN the judge (it will never get this far, it will be mediated) would have to agree that curtains were damaging and side in the landlords favor. NOT going to happen. (Unless it’s a historical building) Laws are strict! Learn them before they bite you! The laws are set up to favor the tenant big time. Especially if they show good faith effort. Simply email or send a certified letter (keep a paper trail) to your landlord that you need curtains. Ask if he would like to put them up or you will. Give him a week (seems fair) Also, if you gave a deposit and you didn’t open the security deposit account with the landlord (it’s a joint account), they are violating the law and will have to give it back with treble damages (3x). Give them that tidbit and see what they say.
