Hmmm. How much will you be driving per month? There’s a new service from Hyundai called Evolve+ that rents brand new or nearly new Hyundai electric cars for about $800/month including insurance from a Hyundai dealership in Holyoke, MA for a 2022 Ioniq 5 SE. Car I’m looking at one in the app now that has 1,200 miles on it and comes with up to 1,000 miles a month and you can rent it for as short or as long as you need it. Only annoying thing I spot is the $300 initiation fee.
And if you have a place to plug it in either at home or at work it might be the easiest and lowest hassle + safest option vs buying an old and potentially dangerous car.
-
you could also rent a car on Turo for $800 or $900 per month.
-
you could buy an affordable car from Carmax and if you don’t like it after 28-29 days (30 day limit) you could return it for a full refund as long as you didn’t drive over 1,500 miles.

I don't even know what their lockout tagout procedure is. Whenever I work out there I work as if it's live

Cool larva! I live in Dorchester and saw fireflies at the park near my house last summer (or maybe the summer before).

Old orange line cars have basically been unofficially retired, green line type 10s will replace the entire fleet, new red line cars will eventually be a full fleet replacement. Blue line you could do it now. Point is, PSDs should be part of the respective fleet replacement projects IMHO.

Ah wow, this is simultaneously disappointing and very interesting. Thanks for bringing your expertise. I live close to Cutler Park, I’ll have to try going over there in the summer. Really want my daughter to see some

My concern is with my own car’s air bag deployed it won’t worth that much at all. It’s a relative newer car with only 40k. I feel the best way is to drive it for as long as possible just need to figure out this gap time

I remember bug splattered wind shields. Every night every street light surrounded by a cloud of bugs. Countless fireflies.
And I doubt we'll ever return to that world.

I recently saw a guy off his face, stumbling and leaning over the edge of the southbound red line platform at Downtown Crossing. There was a train about to arrive and I was too far away to get to him in time.
Another person on the platform grabbed him and pulled him back just in time. My heart was in my mouth, I honestly thought I was going to see him die.

200.. YARDS? do you know how big that is? That's almost 2 football field. You probably mean feet and even 200 feet would be a stretch of a length

Last time at park street I was looking at the danger third rail signs and they were dirty af and most barely readable. When I was really young in the 90’s they were very clearly readable

I mean pretty much everyone responding to you knows what a third rail is and is explaining it to you.

>Old trains can't stop exactly on their marks.
That's not really an issue, it's more that we have different train sets with different numbers of doors. Also that we have such a backlog of much more important maintenance that it really isn't a priority

In the early 1900s a huge holding tank filled with molasses burst in the North end and flooded the streets. It killed a bunch a bunch of people and animals. It took a long time to clean up and they say the smell lasted for decades. I've heard that on hot summer days in the North end there's still an occasional whiff of molasses in the air. I think that is probably urban legend but the molasses flood really happened.

So yes, this is Lampyridae (fireflies), but this isn’t the one you think it is. It’s a Winter Firefly (Ellychnia corrusca) larva. They don’t light up as adults, and are sooooo much more common. Still very cool though!
I recommend checking the links below for more info about your friend.
If you’re curious about fireflies in general, Mass Audubon has a cool citizen science project here.
I am an entomologist, and I do a ton of field work around the state. Fireflies are around at a good number of my field sites. Cutler park in Dedham has quite a few at times.
