I saw Reading Heights on an old map someone else made, I don't know anything about Reading. The station is on route 129 near I-93.

The GLX stations are there but most are no longer connected to the green line at all.
It is impossible to get from Ball SQ to Lechmere without connecting between the Magenta line and the Silver Line to get to Union and then taking that 1 stop to Lechmere. That is an extremely bizarre decision especially because it doesn't factor in the fact that there is already a ton of infrastructure to connect those together directly.
What would have made a ton more sense would be to have the Washington Street Magenta station continue to Somerville Park St and then Porter Street and the whole new branch to Waltham Center would be the Magenta line rather than a Green Line.

And demand pricing for parking. Better enforcement of parking downtown.

It is. They can run faster, they have less maintenance and issues in general. And oh yeah not beholden to the price of fuel to the same degree.

Braintree schools are already bursting at the seams with kids. With 500 apartments there will certainly be more kids entering the system. The concern is that Braintree doesn’t currently have the capacity for it.
But also, it is literally within feet of that school. The town closed an access road from the plaza to the school in the early 2000’s because of traffic concerns then. Added people could make it an issue again

To a degree I understand it. If you incentivize someone from further not driving that makes life easier for everyone in between (e.g. one less driver).
Though as someone who lives next to the WR CR stop, I will never take the CR unless I have a weekend pass or work is paying for it. Even if it was 4 dollars I'd do it more often.

The 5 day flex passes can only be used within a short amount of time, and for my zone it’s $72. They have the 10 ride option for $80 but those passes are valid for 3 months. But depending on how often you go in, it’s also not cost effective. Then you add parking to any fare, and it’s even less cost effective.
And how is it the Salem fare costs the same as Swampscott, that doesn’t make any sense?! Shouldn’t Swampscott be less?

> Sports betting is a tax on stupid people but it's also a tax on people with addictive personalities.
I'd hope you have the same, or more, energy to come for the state lottery.
Sports betting has several barriers to entry for your average person and the odds are transparent.
Walking into your local convenience store and dropping $100 a week on scratchers where you have no clue what your odds or potential winnings are is far more predatory and exploitive.

The Fitchburg line right now too. Morning inbound trains are scheduled to arrive at 8:06 and 9:04 AM at North Station. This means there really is only one train the entire morning that gets you into the city in time for working hours.
Outbound trains depart North Station at 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Makes more sense if you work near North Station, but good luck making those departure times if you have a subway connection especially with the current reduced service and T shenanigans.
And I work in Watertown, so if the 70 is stuck in traffic and I miss the train at Waltham, I have to wait an hour in the cold.
The pre-covid schedule was a train approximately every half hour. Even if you missed a train, you wouldn't have to wait way too long. I've been driving in 99% of the time now and only taking the train when I'm way too tired or lazy to drive in rush hour traffic. I'd go back to taking the train immediately if they brought back one additional train during rush hour, or the express train.

>Man, I wish there was a better way to solve the housing crisis aside from essentially selling all newly zoned residential land to corporate development/management companies.
You're not gonna find much land left to build SFH neighborhoods in Eastern MA; and if you do, they certainly won't be cheap (million dollar homes on third acre lots). Local developers don't have deep enough pockets to spend 8-figures for the property alone and then the cost to redevelop it either. The alternative is abandoned property.

As someone who moved to the south shore recently, this is a great thing, and we need more of it.
People keep freaking out and rallying against it, yet they all love shopping at Hanover Crossing and going to that Market Basket. Development of apartments means more stores, more restaurants, more choice, and lower taxes.
Not to mention, these are all fairly high prices - you're bringing working, white-collar couples and young families to the area. All of this is a good thing.

That's not the concern.
Dense housing in good school districts attract a lot of families that want those schools.
The problem is that apartment complexes like this don't pay in as much as property taxes as other kinds of housing and by the nature of their size they increase the number of students by a significant amount over a short period of time.
Most school districts aren't sitting on a ton of excess capacity.
It is a valid concern that most towns fail to deal with well.
Edit: Also the teachers working without a contract comment is noteable. It's another school district playing hardball with the teachers union because they think the union won't vote to strike. It's a sure sign of a bad school committee that doesn't want to increase school spending.

You've been able to access the app forever, you just can't place a bet. Even more annoyingly you can't sell or close a ticket when it's in the money. Many times I would have love to cash out and take my win in the 3rd quarter of a game only to watch my bet blow up by the end of the game.
Edit: To be clear I'd place bets while up in NH visiting family but couldn't close them out once back in MA. Just had to let them ride.

Watching these things navigate into and out of the port from Admiral Hill in Chelsea is a sight to behold. The size of scope of the car carriers makers me so uncomfortable but I also can't look away.
One time I was eating lunch over near Piers Park and one of these was leaving port and blasted it's horn (I think the layman's explanation is it's a "hey I'm coming around a blind corner and by the time you see me it's too late for me to stop to gtfo of my way"
I felt it my fucking soul. Talk about brown sound.

not right now because the only direct trains from hyde park to providence run at 9.40am and 11.15pm
but when those run the fare is $6.25
the fare calculator will tell you the same
