It is definitely a bit absurd, but just to be fair about it the Readville stop is in the city of Boston and the Lynn stop is not. The mayor of Boston doesn’t really have standing to demand a change in Lynn.

This project is too big. Ideally we should move this project to a different location. I'm all for more housing, but this isn't the way. What about the shadows this will cast? This type of construction ruins the character of the neighborhood. Not in my backyard!

Cutting $475+ million from a transit agency that's already looking at 9 figure deficits going forward doesn't seem like a good way to improve our public transit

Yeah, the monthly pass costs really need a refresh. The train from Salem to North Station is $16/rt. The monthly pass is $261. There were 20 non-holiday weekdays in January, so the $261 monthly pass saved a nice bit over paying $320 for individual rides. But most people I know are only going in three days per week AT MOST. So for them, thirteen pay-per-rides this month is $208 v. $261 for the monthly pass. Plus, the savings grows every time a conductor doesn't check tickets.

You do realize Southie has two red line stops as it is, right? Admittedly, they aren’t conveniently placed depending on where in Southie you are going, but saying “still no train to Southie” is a bit much.

Eh, the commuter rail is pretty expensive if you have a longish commute for a monthly pass so it probably is at least partly the issue. But the unreliability and infrequent trains is also part of the problem I imagine.

Take the silver line and continue past JFK UMass to actually go to UMass. Then turn left and connect it to Drydock through Southie

The thing about the traffic is, it’s like 8 lanes all the way to the highway from there. They could build 2000 units of new housing and it wouldn’t overwhelm the roads. The only exception is during the month around Christmas, but then the traffic is already a mess to the point that you’d hardly notice the added volume.

I don’t have kids so that argument is invalid. What if your kid takes your keys and runs someone over? What if he took your keys instead of your gun? Should another parent have their car taken away for your it responsibility and your kids actions? You can’t blame other people for someone else’s actions. That’s not how it works. Maybe some people aren’t good parents and that’s the deeper problem.

How about let's make all transit fucking free and stop punishing people for being poor or trying to limit cars on the road.

Now now, we can build the tracks, stations, or trains. You can only pick one. Trains have a delivery date of 2060 at the earliest, stations are a no go, and the tracks are easy we just have no place to put them..

You'd be surprised what a NIMBY can come up with if you give them an outlet. In this case, I've mostly seen complaints regarding traffic implications. Not unfounded, since while it is right next to the mall and decently close to the red line, the surrounding area doesn't look all that walkable. But we can't keep accomodating the every whim of car drivers, the cost of housing is just getting too high.

Ehhh police guard the law and the law isn't about justice, it's about criminality and "legal rights" which are rules that keep the rich, rich. So yeah! I actually would agree in an intersectional way.

It was a great story and worthy of our time. It seemed the woman making the accusations was upset that the professor didn't want something more serious with her and took him down because of that, which is wildly unfair. I also think it's a lesson to not sleep with people related to your work environment. (Unless you plan to seriously date them.)
