My point was that the scene does a good job of capturing the essence of how we used the term back then. Even having Cliff be the character that said it, and the way he said it, somehow seems right on the money for the times.

I think of it as vaguely lower-class speak or blue collar. It was especially common to use it when talking about Boston sports and Boston sports fans.

Again. The key point is that the term has a long and deep history in the culture and the idea that the term was recently conjured up by the tourist industry is just plain wrong.

But that's like someone saying "the government should have healthcare", and someone pointing to the Tuskegee Study. We have examples of public housing in the US. We know what it looks like. A lot of public housing in Europe isn't what you linked to, either.

>Why do you need to force developers to do anything?

Because they develop in short-sighted ways, and that fucks everyone. They're building on land, which means it's limited and subject to public opinion, to say the least. I wouldn't force anyone to design a cup, painting, or so on, but if we're talking about a necessity that's inelastic, then we should come together to figure something out. No reason localities can't actually put thought into their building codes instead of just adopting whatever people decided elsewhere, which is really what happens.

Laughing stock according to who, and why do we care what they think? If you moved here without realizing it's one of the most expensive cities in the country I'm not sure what to tell you. LA and San Francisco, like Boston, are expensive cities because there is such a high demand to live in them. Sure you could save some money and move to a city like Detroit, but there's a reason why people aren't doing that.

natick. i just moved into a 2 bed 1 bath loft in natick center. 1950 total. completely renovated, hardwood, everything i wanted lol. i ended up finding it on craigslist after not finding anything on zillow bc i have a cat. you probably could find something for under 2.5k in newton, waltham, or watertown though, but it most definitely will not be in a complex. those start at like 3.2.
