Actually we’re coming out to the area next week just to look at some areas and Salem is one of the top places we’re considering. Just thought we’d check what might be between there and Boston.

It was a good point, many good points, no need to down vote the recognition that someone has changed their perspective. Ah the internet..

There are some good answers here, I'll also add Aeronaut which can have jazz acts here and there. Also the swing dance scene is starting to recover and while unfortunately some of the old stalwart bands of the scene have packed it in, there is a new generation of really excellent young musicians getting involved and helping to put Boston back on the map.
Lastly, some jazz has moved into smaller less dedicated spaces (including house shows), so it can be harder to get to where the players are. Your best bet is: next time you see a jazz show you like, ask the band leader or especially any side player you like where they are playing soon, and you'll get some great intel. Half of the time they'll say something you can barely google or sounds made up like "The Art Dungeon, in the basement of Papa Gino's" or whatever. Then you'll start to get a sense of where you can see shows and get closer to players and the music they're making. Go to Lilypad and triple the suggested Venmo minimum at the door and make someone's night, they'll tell you what they're most excited about coming up and now you've got a killer spot in your pocket from a musician who has the best energy you could ever hope for. Shit, like a quarter of folks playing around town are still in school so maybe you'll even get a "you should come to my senior recital at the shitty little stage in the old Berklee building on a Wednesday at 2pm" and it will be one of the best shows you've seen in your entire life.

OP can afford Brookline and some people think it's worth the cost. I used to live by Audubon Circle and I liked being near Coolidge Corner and Fenway, but ended up moving to Somerville cause it was much better value than Brookline at the time.

I haven’t been to the Boston location, but agree about the one in Newton.

There are at least one or two more coming as well. Link below mentions Jazz Urbane, but also has one in Seaport (same owner as Darryl's). https://www.bostonmagazine.com/restaurants/2023/01/17/boston-restaurant-openings-2023/

A couple more are expected to open in the next year or so!
I'm up on Somerville, pretty close to the Mad Monkfish (which is great!) but I've honestly been enjoying going out to the Porch for blues more recently, since I really enjoy the casual bar feel (and the whiskey). Also, the porch has space for dancing, which is a rarity in this area.

i am afraid that anything outside of boston is going to be more suburban since that's where couples in 30-40s escape to eg: quincy, nashua, framingham, burlington, waltham, worcester
city is filled with univ students and young professionals starting out, which might be more to your liking. but city has lot more older buildings than new...which means they charge substantial premium...1 bed will cost 3k or over. anything lower and real estate agents will be there
i made my peace by choosing an older building...it's affordable, didn't pay broker fee + first & last month only, in a young vibrant area, in walking distance of cafes/diners/bars.
i would recommend coming with a budget, and from there prioritizing which things you absolutely want and what aspects you are willing to compromise on

Look along the Orange and Green lines, as that's what goes through North Station. Find a hotel that meets whatever your budget is.

Except it isn't true. The Panama papers affect literally everybody. Not to be callous because it's obviously an issue that is important but I've never been sexually harassed at work. So the comment you're replying to is just making stuff up and spreading whataboutism to derail the topic at hand
