Living in an 800sq ft 2bedroom with baseboard heating heated by gas, no central air (use 2 12K BTU to cool down apartment in summer). Heat set to 65F with room primarily being kept warm from sunlight during the day, after sunset, heating raised to 69F. Heating turned down to 62F before going to bed. 2 people shower twice a day.

Summer Electric : $80-100 Summer Gas : $25-35 Winter electric: $50-60 Winter Gas : $140-160

Internet $45 for gig speed (pay for my own router and modem)

(Edit: internet was approx $45, had earlier stated it to be $30 which was incorrect)

I’m questioning a decision. I’m also questioning the medical professionals who let her be home. When there is a tragedy we need to look at where the breakdown was. Was he not being supported enough? Did he feel he needed a break? If I wanted to blame him I would have said “he should not have left her with the kids to get pizza”. I know it’s hard to understand meaning in text. I used to write care plans and I’m analyzing more than maybe someone else. I just don’t want this to ever happen again so I look at where did this go wrong.

They aren't wrong. Several unhoused will refuse to be sheltered and there's a good chance some will die from exposure, drinking too much to fight the cold, or taking too much then they don't feel the cold.

People keep their oven on for heat, CO poisoning happens. Space heater causes a fire.

Lots of ways people can lose their life from this type of cold snap.

In 2008 the Red Sox opened the season in Tokyo against the Athletics, an MLB initiative to build the brand in Japan. They took a chartered flight from Boston that went to Tokyo via the pole. I remember seeing a photo (in the Globe, I think) of some of the players looking out the window in the middle of the flight at the ice sheet near the North Pole. I did a quick search online for the picture but couldn't find it. Maybe someone else can?

Years later I flew to Tokyo from Detroit and managed to take my own photo of the ice cap. Coming from Detroit we didn't go directly over the pole but we were a few hundred miles North of the northernmost part of Alaska.
