Painting one room will always be unreasonably expensive because you’re paying for a 1-2 man painting crew’s entire day.

It’s not like they punch out and you don’t pay them while they wait for the primer or first coat to dry a bit, and they can’t just move on to another room.

It’s also rare to have such a small sized job so they can’t just jump to another small job and come back (you wouldn’t want them to anyway).

What you’re paying for if they’re pretty decent painters but on the low end is is probably $35/hr. is 2x 8hrs x $35 = $560 for a crew of two for the day.

Paint has gotten absurdly expensive too.

So based on your dimensions and assuming 8’-0” walls, one door and two windows and trim at the base and frames - about 3 gallons of primer and depending on your trim color, 3-4 gallons of paint.

Call it $50 for Primer and $200 for Paint.

Add 20% markup for them having to get the paint, and another $100 in overhead charges to cover their supplies, etc, and you’re at $560+$300+$100

So that seems fair.

My advice is (if you can afford it, I know you’re expecting) think about having another room painted, you’d probably just be paying another $250-300 in materials.

Respectfully, there are very few women who kill their children who are in active treatment for post partum mental health issues. I would challeneg you to find another story like this. That’s a big part of the sympathy- that we as a society dont give enough attention to pp mh, and that even when a woman did give it attention, this happened.

You can blame all the other factors class/race/gender- they are clearly relevant. The idea of someone being aware of, and taking advantage of, help in this situation, and then tragically having the worst outcome is part of what makes so many people have sympathy. Among the other reasons you’ve mentioned

You need to be careful with that. If you go with a blunt solution by turning it off where it comes in from the street and you have a boiler you're stopping the system from getting makeup water which can damage it.

You should be using a shutoff where you can isolate pipes vulnerable to freezing (e.g. running in outside walls), but it's also important to open the fixture at the "user" end as the water can still freeze and expand which can burst the pipe still.

Lol, nothing crazy to report. This wasn't the first time we hung out. She was actually my uber driver a few months ago lol. I saw her name in the app and it looked like it was Turkish and I speak very very very little Turkish because I used to be married to a Turkish woman (who turned out to be a bitch and cheater lol). After small talk the uber driver ends up bringing up how she was in Istanbul not to long ago and just got back here. So I start speaking the limited Turkish I do know and we flirted and talked the whole ride. I'm a moron and can never pick up on a hint from a woman. So I end up just leaving and saying good night to her. I realize I probably fucked up not asking for her number but she's a very pretty woman driving uber in a city, she gets hit on everyday, and just didn't wanna be that creep. But I was pretty drunk that night and did something that everyone including sober me would say is creepy lol. I used the "lost an item" thing in uber to send her a message and put my number in it. She text me the next day and was so happy I tried that lol. We've basically been texting ever since and hanging out here and there.

Things went well last night. Wehad a few drinks, ate, went to a couple different bars. We ended up heading to the bell in hand but didn't wanna pay a cover so went to a few different bars in that area and walked around a bit. We did talk about going to Turkey in a few months though. So that would be cool.

The shutdown of the floating hospital had nothing to do with supply and demand. People travel from all over the world for treatment in Boston.

They closed the floating hospital because it wasn’t profitable. The floating hospital was heavily utilized by low income minorities, more so than other local children’s hospitals, and they didn’t want to shoulder that cost anymore. Aside from protecting their bottom line there was also a sentiment of spite towards the other children’s hospitals that rejected low income patients and sent them to Tufts. This was all within the hospital admin and not the way patient facing staff felt.

The lack of a real gayborhood in Boston is gonna kill the scene. South End is about as close as it gets and even, it's meh. Most other big cities have a few blocks where you can hit all the LGBT+ establishments, making them easier to patronize. That isn't the case in Boston.
