I use Goodreads and in my list I have books from different topics/genres. At any given moment I try to have at least 1 book from each topic in my “currently reading”. If I finish one, I go to the next. And I try taking the oldest ones waiting for me to read them. Sometimes I delete few, according to my personal taste’s evolution. My topics are usually “fantasy”, “hobby”, “mental health”, “people”, “fiction”, “sci-fi”, “thriller/horror”, “work related”, “science”… my favorite shelf is fantasy I move those a bit more than the rest, the fastest shelf is hobby due to the size of the books. I organize my list from date added, that way I keep adding but don’t forget those old ones that I wanted to read years ago.

My wife is a cookbook author and gets occasional fan mail. She loves hearing from people. A few weeks ago a librarian from an elementary school asked for our address because a little girl wanted to send her a letter. Apparently this girl kept checking out one of my wife's books over and over and loved it. My wife responded by sending this girl's class a full set of her signed books. So, worst case you get ignored, but most authors really like it unless they are super famous and inundated.

Back when I was running my book review site, I tweeted about a new book coming out that I was really excited about. I said basically 'WHO DO I HAVE TO SLEEP WITH TO GET A REVIEW COPY? I CAN'T WAIT TO READ THIS!"

You know, sometimes I forget that tweets are public and people read them.

I got a very polite DM from the author saying that wouldn't be necessary and he would have the publisher send me a copy.

So yeah. Maybe don't do that, but it's fine.

I love Anne because Tenant of Wildfell Hall basically subverts everything about what it was like to be a woman during the Brontes' time. And is the first piece of, dare I say it, feminist literature. Way ahead of its time.

You aren't forced to pay taxes any more than you are forced to pay rent.

If you don't want to pay then, don't live there.

You are arguing for the effective abolishment of libraries. You are arguing to force people to pay for something they don't have to pay for already.

All you libertarians are housecats.

Lord Henry was getting older. Not as much attention. He tells him that the world is his for the taking and he will show him. What does Henry get in return? More invitations, more attention, more of everything due to reflected glory from Dorian. He got a kitten for company that turned into a tiger which he couldn’t tame or keep up with.

It means they won’t be given state funds this year. As to how it affects them, I honestly don’t know how much of a budget they depend on these funds for, if there are other funds that can’t be removed, etc. Maybe a librarian could enlighten us on that. My only point is that the MO congress seemingly thinks it’s ok to risk precious resources for communities because they want to throw a temper tantrum about a lawsuit that the people of the state likely had no knowledge of and certainly no culpability for.
