Wow, much empathy to the babies 😖 they are being used like pawns in grown folks business and they never should have been used.

I am not a parent. To read this much empathy to parents đŸ«Ł to have children terrorized in such a way.

I do however believe I would have some type of feelings if a school wanted to distribute books to my elementary aged child about any sex straight gay or otherwise. A minimum of teachings I would have taught my children about for safety purposes.

I wouldn’t threaten to bomb schools for that though no matter how strongly I felt and other arrangements would have been made if the curriculum insisted.

Peace be with all of those affected by this.

Exactly.

It's also ironic that these are the same people who whine about "woke" and "politically correct" and they're literally threatening to blow up schools, along with violence against librarians, because of a book. Not a law that is passed (oh, like banning the morning after pill in Wyoming) or overturning a landmark case about bodily autonomy (Roe v. Wade), but a book that teaches the reader about things.

I mean, look, I get that some content may not be appropriate for certain age groups, but that's the librarian's job, not these nutjobs who believe sex is only for procreation.

Pop fiction has for a long time been more popular than more serious literature. I mean, it’s in the name, ‘popular’ fiction. Even among avid reading adults and older people who have been reading for decades, trashy consumerist novels are extremely popular. Not to bag on romance, but there’s a reason it’s the biggest selling genre.

Most young people mature with experience and they soon learn that these tropes are just tropes. Also, if they want erotica we live in a world now that pornhub is easier & quicker to access & navigate than Goodreads.

So I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It’s not the books being marketed that’s changed but just the manner in which they are now being marketed.

I dont use booktok though so I may be under estimating it? Idk

I don't really see it as any better or worse than any other sort of web 2.0 outlet for book discussion. Seems to me that it has all the same upsides and downsides of booktube, bookstagram, etc.

Good paper is getting incredibly expensive, leading publishers to cut corners. Doesn't matter how good your printing process is if the paper you're putting it down on is shit.

I've noticed it even over in the states. It's probably even worse in the UK with Brexit and all that.

I've heard y'all's environmental agency isn't even noting, much less fining violations anymore, for example.

How do they quote the note without calling out the lies? "They allow and encourage children to read sexual content such as the book “this book is gay”, a book which contains graphic sexual content [ editors note: it doesn't include sexual content] and encourages children to use hook up apps [editors note: it doesn't encourage children to use hook up apps]. This book is not even designed for teenagers but kids..."

Otherwise it reads like the claims are truthful. Especially since they don't note the lie later in the article either.

My friends and I gift each other books. I either pick something off their Goodreads "Want to Read" list, a book from an author I know they like, or a new book I believe is in their wheel house. I include the receipt so they can exchange it if they want.

Yes, they are worth it. Then check out the other writers who have added to this world in Kindle unlimited. They are available individual purchase as well but many are not terribly long so a month or 2 of unlimited is worth the cost if you are a quick reader. Howely opened his world up for other writers to get paid for their works, he is a very cool author.

I read the historian as a tween and didn't hate it. Had some charm. Why didn't you like it?

The Alchemist however is garbage and I would support that the Amazon rainforest be burned down entirely if it meant it spared the trees from the possibility of the fate of having Coelho's words printed upon them.

There are many great fics based in that universe once you are done with the Howley cannon. Most are available on Kindle Unlimited for free.

I too lost a week of my life devouring that series. It is certainly one that forces you to think about it when not reading it.
