I agree! No book or writing style is perfect, but damn I was hooked! And I love a book that gets an emotional response out of me, a win in my opinion

Most if not all King novels would be much better with 10-20% being cut.

I agree! I listened on audiobook so I think the “writing” was more bearable. Felt like I was dying to hear what happened next rather

I totally get that! I listened to it in audio book first so I guess that may have helped!

I have found YouTube very helpful as I have increases what I knit. I often have to look at different vids to get one that sinks in.
Though there are somethings that I've yet to concur on YouTube or written. They take you just so far and then stop and I am left with but what comes next?

People like his books because he’s a big time author. His Fairy Tale seems similar to others. Only difference in Stephen King’s case is he likes to go into details about EVERYTHING. It feels like he doesn’t know how to just make a story go forward without mentioning the dog is hungry. Without mentioning the kid is not into school. Mentions bicycle scenes. These do not really make the story move forward, but feels like a slice of life mixed with fairy tale writing.
I don’t like his style of writing, but I have noticed that his era of writing has other writers who write like him where they write everything makes me think it was popular to write it that way in his time.
I loved Dragon’s Eye by him and that was actually the only book I really enjoyed of his. I did read The Shining and Doctor Sleep but I liked the movies better.

Reply to Our Wives Under the Sea is the BEST book I've read in a long time and I just wanna talk about it by Starlit-Sage
I love slow existential dread, will give it a try. I’d classify the southern reach trilogy as that as well, and the movie as closer to typical horror

I literally just finished that one. I think I'll be thinking about that one for a while

I knit while I listen to audiobooks so I often listen to them twice.
Since I am older I am cognizant of brain function. If I am listening to a book with four similar characters I make an effort to remember who is whom.
I've been listening to a lot of women in WWII/WWI books they are often based on real events. I don't remember having this problem in the past but it was about two years ago I began reading books with multiple main characters.
I don't often read non-fiction but recently read Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain. It is very good and I have enjoyed listening to it more than once.

Henry Winkler was at Autorama in Detroit yesterday. I had no idea about the books either!

It was okay, but I wanted more. The setting in old Hollywood, the struggles of being a woman etc could have been so interesting if they were flushed out.

I enjoyed it as an audio book! I thought the writing style made it very easy to follow along and stay engaged, like a podcast or radio show. The narrator was superb, I enjoyed her different voices and ability to give each character their own personality.

Some books do not pair well with audio books. Some narrators are inferior to others, because everyone is human with our own unique styles. Also, the subjects of the books may not have drawn your attention as much as other subjects would. If I were you I would research on Google for the highest rated narrators and try some of their work and see whether your listening experience changes. just a thought?

I didn’t like it, even though I’m not a native English speaker the writing was way too lazy… it felt like a cheap wine, sorry :(

I’m not a heavily visual reader but I sort of see snapshots and pause a lot to focus on imagining/“directing” things. I love anything with costume descriptions.

I feel like there's a certain stigma around liking certain authors, particularly ones renowned on booktok. Just a reminder that you're allowed to enjoy the books that you do, and you don't have to be critical over it just because someone else was.

that said, I loved it! I am not generally a reader of this genre but I thought it was fun.
