It’s not a new literary device by any means. Most authors who do alternating POVs do third person limited, though, not first. I think first person is difficult to pull off with multiple POVs as most authors end up inadvertently making different character voices sound the same when constantly writing “I” throughout a whole book. William Faulkner managed to do it very well in several books, though, most famously in As I Lay Dying.

I just finished the Rogue Trader series. It was good, but it ends pretty abruptly and leaves a lot of very important plot threads hanging. I’ve been slowly making my way through these books for the past few years. They’re usually quite a slog, but very interesting to read because of the well fleshed out universe they are in.

I do remember the books I've listened to, but I came to the conclusion audiobooks aren't for me as my mind ended up wandering while listening, so I had to keep coming back, sometimes a whole chapter. Somehow I find it harder to focus on audiobooks (and podcasts), any chance this is what happens to you?

It greatly depends on the narrator. Best one I’ve ever listened to was IT by Stephen King. I think Stephen Weber narrates it

I'm with you. I feel so burned by both I only do finished series now. I think most people don't even finish a series, but I just get too invested in the characters and world.

I can only audiobook while driving. I have some long, flat, straight, boring ass drives in my life. Even then I'm only attempting fiction, where if I miss a sentence or two I haven't really lost much, usually, that I can't pick back up from context.
About to start the three-body problem in a week or two. I gather that one's tough to keep up with on audio... We'll see

This is why I love Tad Williams because he always includes a good summary at the start of his new books. Plus I know I can trust him finishing his series 🙏

It's probably a good indication. My wife can't listen to audiobooks either, despite being an avid reader. I guess it's just something that doesn't work for some people.

I tend to find that reading the last few chapters is enough to jog my memory for a new book, but if it doesn't, that means I can get the full enjoyment out of a re-read.

Agreed - I've read ASOIAF enough that I know it, plus the TV shows, but it's still hard. For Harry Potter - I re-read the series each book and I know that shit backwards and forwards!

I've also stopped watching fiction on Netflix for this reason. A good story that needs to span 8 15 episode seasons?
Naw, cancel that shit after 2 seasons of 8 eps.

I am the same now, there’s too many good books out there to get involved in series’ that make you wait 10 years for a sequel.
That being said I came to this decision after reading the gentlemen bastard sequence and ASOIAF so its really just the king killer chronicles I’m boycotting at this point

Number 2 is especially accurate! It can also happen with bad pronunciation! If I’m getting into the book, the last thing I want is to be jarred out because of someone saying the word wrong! I’m not talking about fantasy names or terms, those will get a pass from me, but with normal everyday words, that’ll throw me right out of the book and sour the experience! It especially sucks when it’s an absolute favorite book!
Another is when they abridge the book, especially when you know the book well, the abridged version just misses so much context! There’s information that is actually relevant that just gets left out, and I really wish they’d go back and offer an unabridged version for those of us who truly love the book!
Edited to add in the second half of my comment that my ADHD decided to draw a blank on! Sorry!

Me to bub unless it's someone like Sanderson. Now that I think about it - I do this with friggin TV shows too! I started ASOIAF in college and there's been so little progress since then. What a great way to not keep me involved.
Fuck JK Rowling for her shittiness, but the books came out on a schedule and were fun.

You might want to try playing with the speed. Try somewhere between 1.3x and 1.7x, I've found that when the speak faster my mind engages the audiobook more and I actually get more out of it!

TBH the last entry closes it out pretty well. If we see another one I have a feeling it will either include a big time jump or some other kind of reset to put Harry into a different role than protaganist.
>!Aside from a few immortal characters Harry has moved past everyone he's interacted with in the series.!<

I know what you mean man. I got back into the 1632 series last year.
But most of the time IMO it isn't a big deal. Any series where the individual books can't stand on their own isn't worth reading in the first place.

thats exactly what I was thinking and wondering if already mentioned book in my post made maybe 1% or 10% of readers stop buying unfinished books. that sould hurt other authors would not it? but thing I am really interested if such a people are so few that it wont affect other authors, or is there high amount that other authors would feel it.
you get less income, you think less people carw about your book and your motivation drops. just because people are scared of starting new book since they forget first book before 2nd is released. or they are scared that they will get unfinished book. and they dont dare to read your book. otherwise author would have more readers

Sometimes, even reading, for me, still makes me forget 80% of the book... I can't concentrate on audiobooks. Perhaps this can be about habit, I couldn't read e-books until I started with baby steps.

Maybe, just get over it. I loved what I received of WOT and Kingkiller.. Why restrain your reading?
