I read this book as a teenager purely because i wanted to after reading the first page. I have since reread parts of it periodically numerous times over the course of 40 years. It still kills me every time.
All this talk about an unreliable narrator or whatever…. Who cares? We’re not in high school English class here.

Ah, I was wondering if there was a recent Iranian immigrant in your family, when recommending Parsepolis (it's set in late '70s Iran)! But then figured maybe there's some pocket of India left where Farsi is still spoken as a first language.
Yes, pre-British colonial rule, Farsi was the lingua franca between all the various Indian kingdoms (probably thanks to the Mughal influence). It remained extremely popular as a second language for the Bengali elite (& the Awadhi elite, probably others too) throughout colonial rule - and my family still has some Farsi books from my grandfather's collection. But in the past 40/50 years the popularity has fallen off a cliff (right alongside the rise of English as the lingua franca I guess). There are still colleges in Bengal that have Farsi departments, but they're dying out for lack of funding and interest.
It's a shame, Farsi sounds beautiful to my ears. Hopefully you and your cousins can pass down Farsi to the next generation!

Agreed. Like stormlight is never at risk of being unfinished

Wow!! Both of these are two of my absolute favorite books. I was just obsessed with the Dangerous Angels series, I must have read it over 10 times as a weird and lonely 12 year old.
And sabriel is just fantastic, I love Garth Nix so much.

whut??? imagine you are reading masterpiece and... you cant know ending. unfinished book. thats torture. I prefer to not read at all. story which stops in the middle, you know it has ending, you know idea exists, you know worlds, countries characters exist but they never became public. its out there somewhere but u can not read them. screw it. really not going to put myself in such a suffering

For me it depends on the author. I'm a lot more willing to start a series being written by someone prolific than someone with puts out one bike a decade.

I think it's ok to put it away and move on to your next pick. Maybe at the end of your list, you'll try again and will enjoy it. Or you'll realize that it just wasn't for you, and that's ok. Good luck!

He hired a prostitute and tried to get frisky with Sally. Not gay.

I personally tried for a while but I kinda gave up on audiobooks, especially when it comes to fiction. I have listened to a few non-fiction books, and it was easier to follow, but I still struggled.
The only thing I actually was able to enjoy was theater. Still ended up unsubscribing to the service.

I am with you. I had a hard time putting the book down. It was an easy read. But you get this feeling that Evelyn’s character was too over the top to be relatable or even real. As much as I liked the book, it was more of a guilty pleasure read.

I like the anticipation of having read I fished series and then trying to anticipate what is coming next.
Suppose similar to binge watching tv series rather than an episode each week.
In saying this, yes very keen for both series OP mentioned to be released. When is too long to wait?

I’m the same with tv series that don’t get released all at once. I generally wait until I can watch all the episodes over the course of a few days or a week rather than watching on episode a week when it comes out because I forget things, lose momentum, etc.

Well, it’s not a competition. There are many unforgettable characters in fiction. I’ll never forget Miss Havisham, for example.

>we were allowed to choose whatever we wanted from the library and read for as long as we liked instead of PE and study periods.
That sounds awesome! I wish my school had this club. It's like, "Look, y'all, I'm never gonna pass the run a mile test, no matter how much I practice. You might as well let me concentrate on what I'm good at." Lol.

This is a hard thing to think about. There is a point in which yeah, if the series isn't done, it sucks to read and want more. But on the other hand, if we did that to every author, there would be no more books as they would not get funding after the first to continue the second or third.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that a series has to keep up a certain amount of sales. If book one does not sell because people are waiting for the end, than there won't be anymore. So I just...buy the book. Have I been burned before sure, but it was once. Out of the hundreds of books I have read, that's not so bad.

Holden’s brother who killed himself was maybe his personification of suicidal depression. The short story A Perfect Day for Bananafish, in the collection Nine Stories, is epic.

Ahm, your exposure says "this is an incredible book, maybe more descriptive than philosophical but nevertheless one that understands the mental processes of people, tough I personally didn't feel it was overwhelmingly addictive" and that seems incredible, I genuinely was thrilled by reading this post.
