Knowing that the books are cheap allows you to let your curiosity lead you. A place filled with $25 books doesn’t do that.

Also, if she had published a story without revealing the kidder, Murder of Roger Ackroyd would have immediately been relegated to "second most controversial mystery by Agatha Christie"

Note that Poisoned Chocolate Case is sort of a satire of murder mysteries, it almost makes fun of the genre.

How on Earth can you pretend to be "a writer" and somehow also not know that your "definition" of fiction is staggeringly limited and ignorant?

"I didn't enjoy this book" is a perfectly reasonable response. "This book didn't tickle my fancy and is therefore garbage" is a childish and ignorant position.

Sounds like you are not a fan of one of the classics in regards to science fiction. Genres exist for a reason and new ones come about while old ones fade. Asimov was heralded because of the newness of the style of story and world created. It was one of his early works so yes improvement is obviously possible but not all stories are for everyone. Based on what you said stories without strong characters are not going to be enjoyable for you. Chalk it up as a learning experience for you as a reader.

It's better than any of her other books. She's a horrible writer.

This is how I do a lot of my reading. Most days I only have time to read on my lunch break so I usually just read 20-30 pages a day

Sanderson has said that Stormlight is where he wanted to take his time and just let the story go super deep. It shows.
The last 200 pages of every Stormlight book has been fantastic though.

You misunderstand. The new generations are getting screwed by the death of bookstores and record stores, no one is blaming them.

The entire place is filled with love. The unwritten stories that those pages hold are, oftentimes, just as powerful as the printed words. These books were taken care of and passed down with reverence.

If you’re interested in sci-fi classics with tighter pacing and more intriguing prose, I recommend Ursula K Le Guin. Maybe start with Lathe of Heaven — it’s short and covers a ton of ground.

You set your own reading goals, no one can tell you how many pages to read or what to get out of reading except you. Unless you’re like in a class or something and have deadlines, go at your own pace!

Probably because for most peoples early life that's literally all reading is. Homework.
