Reply to comment by Choice_Mistake759 in Does anyone know a used book seller with resonable shipping options to Europe? by Super_Forever_5850
Thanks, I'll take look if the need arises but generally this would be for used books, books still in print can generally be ordered trough Swedish firms.
At these shipping costs it might be cheaper to visit and transport the books myself (once my list of books to buy is long enough). Know of any good physical stores for used books in the UK?

I had pretty much the same experience. Tried re-reading the series a few months ago and dropped it about half way thru the first book. I think Azimov's works were brilliant and original but haven't held up as well as some of the other Golden Age books.
Some experiences just can't be repeated.

I found the Foundation series to be one of the best sci-fi I ever read. Ironically, I hated Dune and never finished reading the first book. Personal preferences are just that. Good luck with your future reading.

I really can't say. Lots of authors have good books and not so good books. Dickens later writings were good, but his earlies works like Pickwick Papers and Sketches by Boz were insufferable. Same goes for Joseph Conrad. Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker, I think these guys generally wrote well. For Sci-Fi, H G Wells, Jules Vernes, Mary Shelly I'd rank over Asimov.

I found out recently H. P. Lovecraft was best pen pal buddies with Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan the Barbarian. There’s two books floating out there with letters the two wrote back and forth to each other. I’ve gotten into Lovecraft’s stuff off and on and keep meaning to read those books to gain a better insight into the writer. You should definitely start there and I’m sure you’ll get some solid answers.

I don't have a copy of it near at hand, so I can't tell you exactly which chapter it is, but in Vikram Seth's The Golden Gate there is a chapter in which one of the main characters >!attends an anti-nuke protest, and at the protest a priest gets up and makes an impassioned speech that just takes my breath away every time I read it.!< (You said no spoilers, although the chapter I'm talking about here is not key to moving the book's plot forward so there's no harm in peeking).

This doesn’t really fit here, but I started reading some of Baum’s other works because I got curious. There’s a story I started where two children are turned into birds and are trying to turn back with the help of their new avian caretakers.
The story is actually pretty dark in many parts. There’s a particularly haunting scene where this mother bird is desperate to have her eggs back and her mate, only to fly to a house and find they’d all been taxidermied. She flies to the window everyday to just sit and stare at them, unable to carry on until she gets killed herself and is put on display alongside her mate.
It’s one of the most haunting scenes I’ve ever read and that’s just one of the little side notes mentioned in the story. There are many more, but after that I decided not to read his stuff for a while.

I’m definitely gonna pic this up and give it a read. I can’t take to much extreme stuff, but I’m kind of curious about the extreme isolation stuff.
Edit; Looked the book up and found it for $3 online, immediately bought it and started reading it.
