That’s fair.

I expect them to have been properly proofread (typesetting, spelling), I'm genuinely unsure why you'd expect any guarantee of them being any good? Especially genre fiction, especially fantasy, which (sure, with exceptions) hardly has a reputation for literary quality. Publishers want it to sell, which might overlap with a certain standard but isn't the aim, they'll continue to publish books that are actively bad if readers prefer it, and readers of fantasy often do, such as in wanting wish-fulfilment. If queer fantasy emphasises romance that sounds like literary quality isn't even the point.

Most of these replies are making me feel like it might not be. But I will not change my ways!

This may be a case of a high demand genre that not many people are writing in so the threshold for publication has been lowered in order for the publishers to offer something, anything.

Reply to Is Hannibal Lecter a villain or an anti-hero to you in the novel/film The Silence of the Lambs? and why? by pablohax
i think in the original novel he was a villain, but the movie portrayed him as more of an anti-hero. both book and film sequel treated him as an anti-hero.

I find myself reading farther into a story because I want to see where the story is going. I DID however just DNF The Wise Man’s Fear after really enjoying The Name of the Wind.

Oh, is some distant land still printing summaries on the back? Can I perhaps move there?
And nah, I'm fairly picky about what I'm interested in. I'll take recs and I've been trying to branch out, but it's very hit or miss and you can imagine how helpful it is to me to know Random Celebrity #3173's secretary glanced at the first draft and thought it was pretty alright.

Per rule 3.14 No DAE, TIL, or Unpopular Opinion type threads. The answer to any question beginning with the words 'does anybody else...' is literally always yes, and the answer to any question beginning with 'am I the only one...' is literally always no. You are far from the only reader to have come up with this idea/habit/thought and we are not here to provide you with praise or validation. These threads should be rephrased to provide significant content for discussion and less clickbait titles, or posted in their respective dedicated subreddits. You may also find what you are looking for in our FAQ.

I think it depends. Some books I will read a synopsis if I have trouble with understanding it, but other books, like more fiction stuff like DUNE or Ender's game type of vibes I like the story to, like you said; unfold in front of me.

Can you tell a little about it? I’d be so interested in this, I love biographies and memoirs.

Apologies, but your post does not contain enough for people to engage in conversation. Do you have something else to say about the book that you could edit into the text? Let me know if you edit it and I will reinstate your post.
Or, if you would prefer to share quick/brief reactions to a book you are currently reading or recently finished, you can comment in our weekly What We're Reading thread, accessible from our header atop the sub. Your book may even appear in the sub banner! Thank you.

I just finished it last night. What was the twist? I assumed that they were organ donors in the first chapter and they said they were clones towards when they went looking Ruth's possible. I thought the best part of the ending was if clones had souls. The symbolism of things lost at the end was very good.

Great! I thought No Country for Old Men was my favorite McCarthy until I read Suttree. Always happy to find more McCarthy to explore.

Cathy has Jory with Julian, another ballet dancer who I believe she marries for a brief period, he's horrible and abusive as are most men in VC Andrews books. Her other son is Bart Jr.
She also collapses and begins bleeding heavily early in Petals on the Wind and needs a d&c, but it's kind of open ended on whether she was suffering a miscarriage from sleeping with Chris in the attic, or if malnutrition and poisoning just messed up her menstrual cycle.

It reminded me of Suttree and No Country for Old Men, but it's a original and uniquely McCarthy book overall. I was impressed by the scope and the creative approach to story telling.

I try my hardest to do this with movies I’m really interested in. But I find myself watching movie trailers more often than not.
