Yeah, I think a lot of Baltimore's crime problem come from lack of police enforcement.
A guy I knew had his OneWheel taken at gun point. He contacted the police but they basically did nothing. One of the girls in our group did a bunch of research, finds the guy selling it on Facebook market place, gets his name and his address, finds the crime camera that would have video of it. They get the footage from the police with this info, it's apparently all recorded.
The guy has warrants for shooting someone. So now they have video taped evidence, a witness, they already knew his address, they even have contact information and a reason to get him to meet up.
They never arrest him.
When my motorcycle was stolen the cop didn't file the police report for like 3 months (which delays insurance payout), and even when he did he never had the vin added to the stolen vehicle registry. So even if someone got caught with the bike they wouldn't know it was stolen.
Police in Baltimore don't do their jobs. And these aren't even the only stories I know about of Baltimore cops just not doing what they're supposed to.

Power Plant may just be what you’re looking for then. Don’t just limit yourself to one place though. You’ll have a bunch to check out once you’re inside.

well, I'm 21 and trying to make up for missing the "college experience" because of COVID, so getting wild sounds pretty good to me

I use to live in the south and twice in one year people were shot during road rage incidents... With crossbows.
So it's not just a gun issue, it's a crazy people issue.

The shopping center has been failing for at least four decades, most of my adult memory. It’s hard to believe no valid investors were found in all this time. Thank you for your insight.

I think the answer to this question will depend entirely on what kind of night you are trying to have at Powerplant.
35 year old me would consider Powerplant on a Saturday night a shit show. 20 year old “trying to get as trash as possible and get wild” me would probably think it’s awesome though.

Yeah, my kids that don't like reading, which, sadly, is the majority of them, definitely don't read at home. The ones that do love reading have parents who show them how important and exciting reading can be. I am a book nerd, so I love to read childrens' fiction and share my favorites with my students.

This oversimplifies things; many organizations compensate volunteers on a subsistence stipend level that isn’t commensurate with what going rate salaries for their services would be. AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps provide stipends for volunteers but no one would call them employees.

If you talk to a bunch of homeless folks you will hear more mixed reviews of Helping Up Mission. I tend to hear they’re coercive about the religious angle, e.g. conditioning assistance on participation in religious activities.

HAHA amazing. Reminds me of a time I was biking to work and a middle school kid waved me down on my bike and asked me if I'd go to the vape store nearby and buy him a vape pen with the $10 he had in his hand. Along with the fact that that was definitely not enough money my first instinct was to just go "absolutely not." He just stares at me for a second and then goes, ".......fuuuuuuuuck." I biked away.

I have heard this referred to as the Saltshaker Cap Theory. God sprinkled the world with a few weirdos here and there, but when He got to Baltimore, the cap fell off the saltshaker.

Manna House. Besides providing meals (which is what they're known for), they're ready to help people find the right resources/orgs for their specific needs. IMO this is an under-appreciated need!
