I completely agree that the likelihood of getting carjacked is extremely small. I am in no way suggesting that you are in danger. However one trick that I do in neighborhoods that I'm worried about, is when I pull up to a light I keep ample space between me and the car in front of me, If I needed to suddenly pull out and go around the car in front of me I'd be able to do it.

And, very sincerely, you are quite safe.

I’ve been once during a less nice Friday evening (colder, rainy day) and it was sparsely attended. I’m sure it could get busy on some Fridays but I suspect the reason the time period is half off is because it wasn’t busy.

I was looking at this this morning too, and then looked up high temps for feb 23rd. It seems like hitting the mid 70s Feb 20-23rd happens an awful lot.

I also dont think that snow forecast for Saturday will last past Monday.

I did Mt. Vernon to the hospital via Monument protected bike lane for a year with no problem, but I never headed out as early as the OP. I did come back sometimes after dark, but usually no later than 8 or 9pm and the biggest issue I had was hitting large debris before I got a stronger headlight.

Not necessarily for everyone, but it is doable!

I’m reminded of the time when Martin O’Malley was Mayor traveling down Harford Rd and he saw someone with his arm extended flapping his hand waiting for a hack. O’Malley had his driver pull over and opened the window to confront the person thinking he was a drug dealer. This incident revealed that he wasn’t as street smart as he portrayed himself to be.

Yeah it is pretty complicated. Some of the bigger cities have lots of canvassers that deploy one night in sections of the city. We had a few volunteers and conducted the count over a few days, but would use the official count date as our point of reference. So the question would be "where are you staying tomorrow night?" or "where did you stay thursday night?" depending on the day.

Lots of cities know where the larger encampments are, though part of what determines a states funding is seeing the numbers go down from year to year. Because of this, lots of shady things take place. In Portland 2 years ago the police swept the local camp sites forcing people to move like 3 days before the count, making it exponentially harder to find and count those people.

You have a substantially better chance of getting into a car accident on the way to/from Baltimore than being carjacked. You basically have to win the crime lottery because it’s very rare. I wouldn’t worry about it in the least.
