Ahh. That’s a real shame. I was assuming that the exclusion of Atlas is due to the reported selective application of their dress code to exclude people of color. It’s a bit of a relief that’s not the case for G&M’s exclusion. I enjoy wings at G&M now and again.

There are probably a lot of people for whom it is just a John Waters refereence, but there is a lot more history to it. This is (or at least used to be) a blue collar town and there are a number of lawn decorations that were popular in east coast blue collar neighborhoods dating back to the mid 20th century. For whatever reason, people in Baltimore seem to not give a fuck about trends moving forward and will almost aggressively hold on to things that go out of fashion (see Nike Air Force Ones). At some point we developed a self awareness about it and pink flamingos became a particular point of pride.

Here is a clip from an old documentary featuring local blowhard Dan Rodericks talking about how his mother refuses to give up her garden gnomes despite his condescending complaints about her poor taste.

G&M is fine for crabcakes but not worth the wait. There's always a huge line and honestly I'm not much impressed by the rest of their menu. It's all very meh. There's a place right down the road from G&M called the Olive Grove that has equally good crabcakes and less wait time.

Hey thanks for your response. I love Ottobar for shows! That's def the vibe I'm into.

I don't mind people drinking, I'm just personally a little bored of the bar setting. I'd love a late-night lounge or something that isn't centered completely around drinking. Like maybe you could sit and read?

Maybe that's just my dream public space and it doesn't exist lol 😅

I used to be a G&M loyalist but the last couple times I've been there their crab cakes were dull, full of filler and just didn't hit right. For the price they charge its a rip.

Near Hopkins, I personally think Dudas is one of the best you can get. Could spend a nice evening out in Fells as well.
