Correct. I do not go to such restaurants. Just like I don’t use Airbnb anymore.
And yes, it hurts the people working there if I get hit with some unpredictable fee. If enough people get pissed off and don’t leave tips then the labor will go elsewhere and the restaurant will have a problem.
They could just be transparent and raise the price of popular dishes by $1 to cover the fee.

They have seasonal specials and certain items you can only get at each location

Lots of people that probably shop at liquor stores on here condemning drug dealing is hilarious

I think mostly the commercial area. Personally, I'd live in the residential parts I've been to. But damn it seems like every other week there's some kind of nonsense going down at that Walmart or Trampoline Park, that whole area. Middle river and Essex have our nonsense too. Aero Acres has been having shootings/stabbings. And Hawthorne has violent crime and car jackings. Somehow the carjackers take off deep into Hawthorne like they don't know it's a peninsula. Dummies. Oh yeah also Rosedale has a major stray cart problem lol. I don't understand why folks in Baltimore don't get those granny carts like folks do down in DC. That kabob place in Rosedale is the best restaurant in the whole area though. That's my review of Rosedale ha.

That’s about where I’m at, too. Part of it is definitely poor insulation in a very old row home, part of it is just how cold it got last month, but yeah rates have gone way up!

Yes. Lots of young kids on that block. Probably on the to do list somewhere. I’ve thought about offering power washing to people in the neighborhood in exchange for a $? donation to BARCS or something. My partner thinks that’s silly though.

You're almost there. The right solution is to not eat there at all.
You said you don't tip if a surprise fee is added. When you make that decision, you are not hurting the restaurant that assessed the fee, you are hurting the laborer who served you.

Reply to comment by Lopsided_School5053 in Musicians- What's a good venue for my 60s/70s/90s cover band to play? by Lopsided_School5053
No problem! The agency asks X amount for us to play at Y venue. Y venue and the agency go back and forth and agree to an amount. So far, the amount the venues have offered has equaled to us getting $1000 after we pay out to the agency. This isn’t always the case but that’s how its worked so far. Sometimes we get paid $1000 and then pay out and we all take home a little less.
So after we’re done playing, we get a check for X amount from that venue, then we give our agency the % we’ve agreed upon (10%) and we keep the rest. We get paid per gig. They don’t make money off of us unless we play a gig that they’ve booked us. We could go around them and book the the same venue without them, but that just ruins our relationship with the agency and typically they’ll still expect a % since it’s considered one of “their” venues.
Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions!

i lived without a car for five years here, and it's more or less okay if you are a strong bike rider. things aren't close enough to walk everywhere you will want to go, and public transit is only sporadically convenient, doesn't run very late and is more designed for commuting than getting around town
in terms of safety, just use the same advice as you would for any city; don't walk around by yourself late at night and avoid closed off areas with no people. don't go to unfamiliar areas before understanding them and the neighborhoods
do some research about what you want to live close to most and find an area to look for a place that is close by. if you want to know more about that neighborhood, ask here

Do you actually comb through the latest menu of every restaurant you go to?

As I said, this is not about tipping. It’s about being hit with surprise fees. I’m happy to leave a tip. But once a business engages in deceptive practices I’m going to avoid the business entirely. If enough people avoid such businesses they will outright go out of business so the trend will end. Less directly, if such businesses cannot attract or retain labor because of pissed off customers not leaving tips they will go out of business.
Fees have proven to be a slippery slope - look at how a single burger on something like Uber Eats can be something like $30+ delivered. It won’t be long before there’s the 5% tipping fee. And 10% supply chain fee. And 5% carbon neutral fee. And then you’re asked to leave an actual tip on top of that.
There’s a reason that European countries have passed price transparency laws.

>The more heat the oil can store, the longer the heating element can stay off.
That was an excerpt from that "article" the other person posted. Even if it stays off longer, it will still need to stay on longer for the oil to reabsorb the heat it lost. Energy in = energy out still. The ONLY case where that doesn't apply is with a heat pump.
Personally, I use infrared quartz heaters and just point them at me.

i can confirm this. there's one across the street from me, and the police definitely know about and do nothing. i've watched them pull multiple bodies out of there since i have been wfh. honestly, i feel kinda like there is no hope to stop any of this

Not everywhere in Baltimore is hooked up for it. My house in Cherry Hill had a kerosene tank in the basement before we ripped it out and had a heat pump installed.
